THAILAND GALLERY
My trip to Thailand in December 1999 was an enjoyable and enriching experience. I joined a group tour organized by Focal Travel and extended two more days. Places covered include Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiangmai, Golden Triangle and Ayuthaya. Photographs taken during the trip are shown in the galleries below. Hope you will enjoy them .....

Bangkok
(Part 1)
Bangkok is the capital of Thailand and is home to more than 10 million people. There are more than 400 Buddhist temples located in Bangkok and famous landmarks include the Chao Phraya River, Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun), Temple of Golden Buddha (Wat Traimit), Vimanmek Mansion etc. |

Bangkok
(Part 2)
Bangkok is also famous for it's colourful "Tuk-Tuk" transportation and traffic jams. As a result, the Chao Phraya River offers an alternative route of transportation. Recently, the monorail transit system started operation which will help to ease the traffic jams. |

Ayuthaya
(Part 1)
Ayuthaya is located about 1.5 hours drive north of Bangkok and it was once the capital of Siam (old name of Thailand) during the Ayuthaya period, between 1350 and 1767. This ancient city has more than 500 Buddhist temples and is a relaxing getaway from busy and traffic congested Bangkok. |

(Part 2)
This gallery showcases photographs taken from the ancient palace of Ayuthaya, a famous landmark and a must for those who wish to visit Ayuthaya. The palace was burned down by the Burmese in 1767, and only the ruins and towers remained. |

Pattaya
The coastal city of Pattaya is a major tourist attraction. There are a lot activities available in this exciting place such as relaxing by the beach, various sea sports, colourful nightlife including numerous pubs and not forgeting cheap goods available from road-side stalls. |

Island (Koh Lan)
Coral Island, or Koh Lan is an island located off the shores of Pattaya. Sea sports such as para-sailing, jet-skiing are available or you can view the corals on a glass bottom boat or simply just shop around at the shophouses. |

Thailand's Landscape
Beautiful Northern Thailand is a land of lush green rolling mountains and various colourful ethnic tribes. This cooling region is also rice growing area and a major tourist attraction of Thailand. |

Chiangmai
(Part 1)
Chiangmai is the second largest city in Thailand amidst the beautiful surroundings of green mountains. This city is famous for it's handicrafts such as wooden cravings, umbrellas, jewelleries etc. It is also the starting point of various adventurous trips in Northern Thailand. |

(Part 2): Wat Doi Suthep
This temple, meaning Temple on top of Suthep Mountain, is located next to Chiangmai. The shiny colours of the temple and delicate Thai architecture has made it a famous temple in Thailand. In order to reach it, you have to drive up Suthep Mountain from Chiangmai, or you can hike up the mountain. |

Maesai
The small town of Maesai is the northern-most point of Thailand as it lies on the border with Myanmar. This town is bursting with people, traffic and activities as thousands cross the border everyday. There are also many merchandize available on the streetside stalls. |

Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle is a famous piece of land the borders the Indo-China countries of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos. It was once famous for its opium fields, but now it is a major tourist attraction for people visiting Northern Thailand. The Mekong River is a prominent landmark, with rolling green hills and beautiful scenery. |
