Do you know the story about the `ukulele?

K:

`Ike loa.

GM:

`Ukulele liked this Portuguese thing very much.

He played at Kalâkaua’s court.

M:

Huhû anei `o Kalâkaua?

GC:

Was Kalâkaua angry?

K:

`A`ole loa!

Mahope mai hâ`awi ka po`e i ka inoa `ukulele i kêia mea ho`okani.

GM:

Not at all!

(He was) full of joy!

Afterwards the people gave the nickname `Ukulele to this musical instrument (playing thing).

M:

Maika`i ka mo`olelo.

Mahalo nui loa.

He `ukulele ka`u.

Hiki nô ia`u ke ho’okani.

I kêia manawa, `ike nô au i ka mo`olelo o ka `ukulele.
