This Museum is located in " la Ermita de la Mare de Deu de Gracia " -Virgin Mary of Grace Hermitage-, some two kilometres out of the city, besides the river Mijares, in a beautiful area known as "el Termet" -the small countryside-.
The stairs that allow the entrance to the Museum starts in a vaulty room which maybe was the original Hermitage building. Several religious objects and ornaments are shown in this area. The building is decorated with renacentist and baroque ceramic tiles, moved from an old palace -now dissapeared-..
The
Museum itself was installed in the Hermitage after the building restoring
in 1986. It has two etnologic rooms, in which a wide range of tools and
hardware from several ages are shown. Two smaller rooms reproduce traditional
homelife decorations and the evolution of our typical dressings.
Another room shows the economics development of the region throughout the ceramics industry. There is a very interesting collection of tiles and ceramics, ranging from the Neolitic to the 19th Century.
This Museum has also a room, in the old chorusplace, dedicated to the popular religious etnology.
