THE WILDLIFE OF TALMOS
[The Flora] [The Fauna] [The Fowl] [The Monsters]
The Flora
The flora of Talmos is quite interesting. Here we will look into some of the common plants, as well as some of the more exotic plants. Some plants are used for healing, others for eating, and you must always be watchful for those that are poisonous, as they are often tempting. There are also those plants that wish to eat insects or animals or even people; of these be extremely cautions, and be ready to defend yourself with lethal force.
The Fauna
The peaceful animals of the world are included in the fauna. Some are domesticated, like the Trajas, but most are fearful of man. There are animals that are very small and scurry around in the trees, or from hiding place to hiding place in search of food. Other animals are rather large, and if made to defend themselves, they could be quite deadly.
The Fowl
Flying birds, land-bound birds, and sea birds flourish on Talmos. There are thousands of species of birds on Talmos, each with a distinct call and behavior. Learning to heed the warnings of the birds in the forest can sometimes save your life. They often scatter or become silent when danger is near. There are also those birds that wish to help you. Not all birds are small and skittish; some are fierce hunters.
The Aggressive Monsters, Animals, Insects, and Genetic Freaks
These are the dangerous elements of the world; the very reason weapons and armor were invented. They make life difficult for the people, sometimes threatening their very lives. Many great men have made names for themselves as hunters of these fearsome beasts. Many legends have been written to explain their existence, since none wish to believe they are part of the natural scheme of things. The list of these monstrosities would go on forever, so we shall only present a small fraction of the more common beasts, and some of the rare beasts which plague the world.
Gourds
These grow on vines. They have special properties such as healing
wounds, curing poisoning, etc.
People with gardens commonly plant gourds along with their other
food crops.
Cacti
Cacti grow in the desert, absorbing as much water as they can
when it rains, and store it in their porous skeletal structure.
The pure water within, along with the cactus sap, makes a
refreshing drink that can heal wounds. The cacti thorns can also
be harvested. When thrown, Cacti thorns stick into their target's
flesh causing immense pain. If you fall into one, you'll get
hurt.
Shumara Trees
These small, broad branched, trees provide needed shade in the
desert shrublands. Their wide branching form, with many small
leaves, shields those underneath from the harsh desert sun. These
trees are usually only twelve feet tall, but the trunk itself is
almost bare until the top three feet from which the strong
branches extend out ward.

Flame Ferns
These ferns look like flames in their coloration and form. They
decorate the many forests of Talmos.
Creeping Moss
This is a carnivorous colony of thousands of plants. The moss
grows on large rocks and trees, waiting for animals to come by
and then the blanket of moss engulfs its prey. The thousands of
plants first seal off all sources of air, then they begin to
secrete an organic acid that eats through flesh. The remains of
this liquified animal is then absorbed into the thousands of
plants.
They are related to Creeping Lichen which inhabit the harsh
tundra of Caldesa.

Thrush Bushes
These are small, dense bushes. They grow mainly in temperate
forests. Their small leaves are the primary food of the Opoek.
Timur Vines
These strong vines have a semi-intelligence. Sometimes they will
crawl up trees and rocks to allow you to climb them. Nobody knows
quite how they know what to do when they do it.
Opoeks
These are massive herbivores. They walk the temperate forests of
Talmos, grazing on the dense underbrush of tender plants,
primarily, the Thrush bushes. They are rather unimpressed with
humans, and are not fearful of them. If angered, they can be
deadly.

Teaq
These are small, otter-like animals with snow-white fur. They
excel at climbing up nearly impossible walls of rock, even with
wet feet. Teaq have been hunted for their soft, beautiful fur,
even though they show signs of intelligent civilization, even a
language of sorts. People who know of these facts are calling
those who kill the Teaq, murderers.

Trajas
These are magnificent animals. They are much like horses, and
serve the same purpose on Talmos. However, Trajas have
dragon-like hind legs, tails and jaws, as well as strong wings.
Adults can fly long distances without tiring out. Young Trajas
can use their wings to glide over the ground, making running take
much less effort, and increase their speed. Trajas are excellent
hunting steeds. They have the innate ability to sense danger, as
most animals, but they do not run, they fight that danger.
Trajas are omnivores, and will eat both grasses and small
animals. They hunt for such food as they fly high above their
native desert habitat in Makos, then they swoop down to snatch
their meal in their dragon-like claws.

Griffons
Griffons are a race of lion-like beasts that have the head,
wings, and front legs of an eagle. They are not very intelligent,
but serve perfectly as steeds, much like the Trajas. They live in
the mountains south of Zevus, as well as many other mountains
around the world. The Knights Zevus train to ride griffons into
battle as mounted knights. Griffons serve loyally, and they will
come to their master's call in an instant, even defending their
wounded master, until their death.

Greeths
These small land birds are desert dwellers. They have extremely
long tail feathers, and their wings are extremely small. They hop
great distances though. Their light brown plumage is rather dull
most of the year, but during mating season, the male's feathers
become green, red, blue, and black. They hop and display their
feathers in the air.
Syra
These are tiny birds that hop around the forest floor. They are
usually a single solid color, but they are diverse in the range
of colors that they appear in. They usually chirp quickly as they
move around. When danger nears, they fly away chirping a warning
call.
Crowned Rebal
These fat birds have light blue plumage with white,
black-speckled undersides. They have short, wide wings, and tiny
black beaks. Their heads are like a bulge from their body, and
are mostly blue. Just above their eyes is a golden line of
feathers that resembles a crown.
The
Aggressive Monsters, Animals, Insects, and Genetic Freaks
Thorn Worms
Thorn worms are large and slug-like. They are usually colored a
bright yellow with green and red markings on their backs. They
have spikes growing out of their backs that can be flung quickly
at anything they consider a threat. Their bright markings, which
would usually serve as a warning of poison in most animals, is a
clever disguise, keeping most predators away. As they move, they
leave a sticky trail, both for community purposes, and to trap
food which they can then easily eat.

Fire Breathing Rats
Genetic mutations of Dr.Kattaka's experiments, they crawl through
the air ducts and other unused hallways within the dreaded
Amakanidor Prison. They can breath fire due to extracting
flamable gasses from the air they breath.
Makosan Slimes
These slimes take the form of bloblike puddles that move around
absorbing their food. The slimes are quite aggressive, and will
try to engulf anything that passes by, and digest them alive,
much like the creeping moss, without the moss. Makosan slimes
also have the ability to take other shapes to attack in, such as
axes and fists.
Lobflies
Another genetic mutation. These are flying lobsters with stingers
and four wings. They are very dangerous. They can sting over and
over, and never lose their stinger.

Skrathas
Thin green lizards that dash from beneath one rock to the next,
in the deserts, to keep out of the sun during the day. They prey
on the many desert insects that burrow into the sands and live
under the rocks. They have sharp teeth and a versatile tail.
