Phil Simms Quarterback New York Giants Super Bowl XXI Phil Simms put on a display of precision passing unmatched in Super Bowl history and led the Giants to a 39-20 victory over Denver. The Giants briefly held the lead in the first half, their score coming on a 6-yard pass from Simms to tight end Zeke Mowatt, but they trailed 10-9 at halftime. New York opened the second half with a 63-yard drive that culminated in Simms' 13-yard scoring strike to tight end Mark Bavaro. After a field goal and a rushing score by Joe Morris, Simms threw for his third touchdown, a 6-yard pass to wide receiver Phil McConkey. The 24 unanswered points put the game out of reach. Simms was a perfect 10-for-10 as the Giants set a record with 30 second-half points.
