Energetic, spunky, and downright hyper, Tai has "the attention span of a gnat." His exceedingly active personality makes Tai a natural leader and athlete (on Earth he was his soccer teams leading striker). Tai almost always takes the initiative and usually comes up with the group's plan of action. However, with so much energy and a short attention span, Tai can easily bring about his own downfall. Tai is very ambitious, rash, and even irrational at times. With these traits, he has many shortcomings.
Tai's courage can be considered one of those shortcomings, for it is a double-edged blade. While it earned him the Crest of Courage and makes him both strong and loyal, his courage can also get the better of him. His outstanding bravery can border on plain stupidity and he is quite capable of getting himself into trouble. Nobody said he was the brightest bulb in the gang.
Tai is a really funny and lively kid. Yes, he can be childish at times, but he's a loveable goofball. To add to that he can be very loud, he's easily excitable, and barely anything gets him down. Tai has a good heart and truly wants to help. However, one member of the group always seems to be in conflict with Tai. Matt. The two boys seem to argue quite a bit over even trivial things. Both can be touchy, stubborn, and they see things in a different light. All it takes is a spark to get the fire going. Tai has developed a very carefree, and fun relationship with his Digimon Agumon. The two have become so close that Agumon has even picked up some of Tai's slang, like "dude." They are always together and they don't mind sharing a few jokes now and then. Tai is very proud of Agu and can always be found rooting for him in the heat of a battle.
Yet there is a dark side to Tai, he seems almost compelled to win and suceed at no matter the cost. When he learnt that his Digimon could digivolve to Ultimate level, Tai really pushed everyone over the edge. He was hard on the gang and Agu and stupidly put himself in danger. Tai's strange behaviour backfired when they saw what Greymon "wrongly" digivolved into - Skull Greymon. Of course, Tai saw the errors of his ways and felt really guilty about it. Foolish or not, hyper or brave, Tai's the kind of guy who will never give up, and while his spur-of-the-moment personality can be a troublesome liability, you'll always want this dedicated kid to be on your team.
In "Prophecy," Tai gets shot by Angewomon in order to make Agumon Warp Digivolve into War Greymon. It works and War Greymon, Metal Garurumon and the others are eventually able to defeat VenomMyotismon. In "Playing Games," Matt accuses Tai of having his veins filled with ice. This latest argument was about Tai's persistence that they should keep going against the Dark Masters when the others wanted to stop and remember the friends that they lost in the Digi-World. Sukamon, Whamon, Piximon, and Chuumon. For a time the group squabbles with themselves but they come back together when Puppetmon starts playing with them. In "The Ultimate Clash," Tai is taken by surprise at Matt's challenge, but when he sees that the fight could not be avoided, Tai begins a fist-fight with Matt. But then Kari starts talking to them with another persons voice and makes War Greymon and Metal Garurumon turn back into Koromon and Tsunomon. After that, Kari takes all the kids to a room where the kids learn more about their pasts and why they are the Digi-Destined. In Episode 48 "My Sister's Keeper," we learn how much Tai worries and cares about Kari. When Kari gets sick, Tai goes berserk and snaps at everyone, even getting into a fist-fight with Izzy. We also learn that when Kari was four, Tai was responsible for Kari getting sick with pneumonia. Apparently Tai took her to play soccer when Kari was already sick. We learn that Tai still feels guilty about it and wishes he left Kari at home. Izzy convinces him otherwise though. In "Joe's Battle," Tai resumes his brave leader role when he distracts Piedmon allowing the others to escape to find Matt, Joe, and Mimi. Tai realizes again that all of the kids are important and that they wouldn't succeed without all of them.
