Nekochan's JournalNekochan's musing of the month (2/97): Like "tsuki to supon" In Japan, there's a saying that goes like "tsuki to supon" to describe something which may seem similar superficially but is actually radically different. Literally it means "like a moon to a turtle shell". Both are round (so superficially similar) but so far apart as to be like night and day. The following elevator silent conversation overheard on the radio yesterday seems to fit in this pattern quite well. Venusian: Oh it's that Martian from 34-B. He's checking me out. Martian: Oh it's that Venusian from 40-C. Venusian: What's he doing now? Looking me up and down. He's hot for me. Martian: Hmm, I wonder when they put new tiles in this elevator. Hadn't noticed that before. Venusian: What now? Mentally undressing me? He definately wants me. Martian: Wonder what the cafeteria will have for lunch today... So while it may seem similar on the surface, the Venusian mind and Martian mind are as different as "tsuki and supon". The only question is, which one is the "tsuki"?? (^_-) Back to |
