MACROSS SAGA
Rick Hunter/Hikaru Ichijyo
A young civilian pilot enters the scene during the opening ceremonies of the first flight of the SDF-1. Caught up in the war between humans and the Zentraedi Rick rescues the young Minmei and throughout the series she becomes his primary love interest. However, through most of the series this is unrequited. He doesn't like war, but stranded on the SDF-1 in deep space, he joins the military to defend the SDF-1 and its 70,000 civilians. He begins as a hot shot pilot and over times develops into a cool well tempered leader of the Skull Squadron. He has to deal with his affections for Minmay, and his growing attraction to his superior officer, Lisa/Misa.

Linn Minmei/Lynn Minmay
A wide eyed girl with dreams of stardom, her dreams appear shattered when Macross which is built up around the Space Fortress is attacked by hostile Zentraedi. The Space Fortress attempted to Fold to the far side of the moon, instead they folded beyond the orbit of Pluto and took half of Macross City and the bomb shelters along with it. She was rescued by a civilian pilot and stranded inside an abandoned area of the ship with Rick for 12 days. After her rescue she went on to rebuild her life and pursue her dreams. After winning Macross' beauty contest she becomes a major pop icon.

Roy Fokker/Roy Focker
A hero and great pilot from the days of the global war. He is also a close family friend to Rick. Leader of the skull squadron, a group of elite variable fighters, Roy defends the Fortress agains the alien aggressors. He was engaged to the bridge officer Claudia Grant. During an unauthorized attack by the Quadrono leader, Roy is wounded. But being the stoic that he was, he ignored his wounds and later bled to death.
Lisa Hayes/Misa Hayase
For generations her family was in the military. Because of her father's prominent position in the military, Lisa worked hard to prove herself. Dedicated, extremely focussed and serious, she has a difficult time opening up to people. Years before the story began, her fiancee was killed on Mars base and this remains a tender spot throughout the series. She eventually falls in love with the younger Rick, but cannot bring herself to tell him.

Claudia Grant
A good friend to Lisa, Roy's fiancee, and bridge officer. She had a rocky romance with Roy Fokker. Things finally settled between them though they rarely have time to see each other. However, Roy dies after one of his missions. Claudia is left grieving for a years until she dies along with the crew of the SDF-1.
Admiral Gloval
Head officer of the SDF-1, he has some forbodings about the ship even during its inauguration. He is left to defend the fortress with an untried crew, inexperienced corp of fighters, and a city full of civilians.
Max Sterling/Maximillian Jenius
A young corporal who enters on the scene as an unknown. Max is assigned under Rick in the Vermillian team along with Ben. From his first flight, it becomes evident that he is an extraordinary pilot. Hailed as the finest pilot, Max remains humble. Soon his fighting skills becomes reknown among the Zentraedi and he becomes singled out by the Zentraedi's greatest pilot Miriya Parino. He defeats his unseen enemy in battle and the Zentraedi vows revenge. The object of a vengeful hunt, Max sees his adversary as an object of affection.

Miriya Parino/Millia Parino
The proud Zentraedi warrior of an elite all female Quadronos, Miriya inserts the three Zentraedi spies aboard the ship. Khyron challenges Miriya that there is a pilot who can beat her. In order to prove that she can defeat the greatest Human pilot, Miriya attacked the SDF-1 to single him out. Max defeats her and she could not rest until she found him and killed him. In an odd twist of fate they come face to face twice, once in an arcade where he asked her out, and once in the park where she revealed her identity as she attacked him.

The Bridge Bunnies
Kim Vannesa and Sammy/Shammy
These three nice girls joined the military and are highly skilled bridge officers. They become romantically involved with the three Zentraedi spies: Rico, Bron, and Konda. During the Khryon's attack on the SDF-1, they are killed.
Rico, Bron and Konda
The three spies who entered the SDF-1 and became enraptured with human culture. They were especially big fans of Minmei. They retold their stories to their peers and soon had large groups of Zentraedi defecting.
Breetai/Britei
The commanding officer ordered to retake the Space Fortress. Since he cannot destroy it, his attempts ar futile. He too is touched by Minmei's song, disturbed over the defection of his crew and even the Zentraedi's greatest pilot. Eventually his armada is to be terminated for destruction along with Earth and the SDF-1.
Exedore
Breetai's loyal advisor. He becomes a diplomat between the SDF-1 and the Zentraedi.
Khyron/Kamijun Kraveshera
An unpredictable Zentraedi of the Boturo Battalian. He is called by Breetai in order to help in recapturing the SDF-1. Khryon disobeys orders and becomes bent on destroying the SDF-1. After the defeat of the Dolza's fleet, Khryon wait on Earth for his final glory of destroying the SDF-1.
Azonia/Lap Lumiz
When it appears that Breetai cannot capture the Fortress, Azonia is called in the do the job. Unable to keep control over Khyron, the capture of the fortress evading her, and losing her valuable Quadrono leader, Azonia was not successful. She informed the Grand Fleet about the corruption of Breetai's fleet with human culture.
