Malaysian Dessert Recipe for Cooking Ang Ku ( Festive Nyonya Cakes )
INGREDIENTS
- 500 gm glutinouse rice flour
- 60 gm icing sugar
- 500 ml water
- Red colouring
- 150 ml oil
- Mix A: 100 g rice flour and 150 ml boiling water
- 600 gm peeling grean bean (soaked for 3 hours)
- 400 gm castor sugar
- Banana leves (cut into squares)

To prepare:
- Steam green beans till soft
- Blend till smooth and stir fry with sugar in a dry pan
- Leave to cool
- Mix glutinous rice flour, icing sugar, water, red coloring together
- Add in Mixture A (rice flour and boiling water)
- Knead well
- Add oil little by little and knead till a smooth dough
- Divide dough into 20 gm portion
- Wrap the filling in a portion of dough
- Press into an 'ang ku' mould
- Gently slide it out of the mould and put on a piece of banana leaf (or use baking sheets)
- Arrange in a steamer
- Use medium heat to steam for 8 mins then serve
TIP: Ang ku moulds can be purchased through your local Asian shop in Chinatown.
Look for shops with cooking appliances.
If no banana leaves are available, you can use baking paper instead. Just cut them into squares.
