Indian Recipe for Meatballs in Sauce
INGREDIENTS FOR MEATBALLS IN SAUCE
- 450g fresh ground lamb
- 1 tbsp garam masala
- 1 garlic clove (crushed)
- 1 tsp fresh gingerroot (crushed)
- 1 1/2 tsp poppy seeds
- 1/2 tsp chilli powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 fresh green chilli (chopped)
- 1/4 bunch cilantro (chopped)
- 2/3 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp besan flour
- Ingredients for Meatball Sauce
- 2 tbs[ vegetable oil
- 3 onions (chopped fine)
- 1 tsp fresh ginger (chopped)
- 1 garlic clove (crushed)
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 small cinnamon sticks
- 2 black cardamon seeds
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 2/3 cup water
Garnishing Ideas
- chopped cilantro
- 1 green chillies (chopped fine)
- 1 lemon (wedges)
TIP: Of course, you don't have to use ground lamb as indicated in this recipe. Subsitute with
pork, beef, turkey, chicken or combination of two meats.

To prepare:
- In a large bowl, combien the the ground lamb with ginger, garlic, garam masala, poppy seeds, salt, chilli
powder, onion, cilantro, fresh green chillies and besan flour
- Mix everything well together with a fork
- Wet your hands in the meantime
- Using your wet hands, form mixture into several bite size balls
- Set aside then wash hands
- How to make the sauce: In a skillet or pan, heat the oil
- Add the onions and and cook till onions become soft and brown
- Add in cinnamon sticks and cardamon seeds
- Reduce the heat and stir-fry for an extra 5 mins
- Add in the salt, ginger, garlic, yogurt and water, mixing everything well
- Transfer the sauce to a serving bowl, garnish with cilantro and chillies
- Heat oil in a pan and add the meatballs
- Cook the meatballs till they become golden brown (8 to 10 mins)
- Scoop up the meatballs, drain oil and transfer them to a serving platter
- Garnish with the lemon wedges, cilantro and cillies
- Serve the sauce on the side
