Japanese Recipe for Sliced Seared Beef with Ponzu Sauce or Guy Tataki
INGREDIENTS FOR SLICED SEARED BEEF WITH PONZU SOY SAUCE
- 80g porterhouse steak
- 1/4 red onion (sliced thin)
- 1 tsp daikon (grated)
- 1 tsp moniji oroshi or chilli paste
- 1 1/2 tbsp ponzu soy sauce
- 1 tbsp green spring onion (minced fine)
- 1 wedge lemon slice
TIP: Ponzu sauce bottle can be purchased at any Asian grocery store.
We hope you enjoy making this simple yet delicious seared beef with ponzu sauce or guy tataki. Make sure that
the beef you purchase is of highest quality as this dish is meant to be eaten slightly raw.

To prepare:
- Using a broiler, cook the steak under the broiler for 1 to 2 mins
- IMPORTANT: Do not OVERCOOK the beef, make sure it's still rare when you remove from broiler
- Remove and using a very SHARP knife, slice the beef into very thin slices
- Arrange the slices of beef on a serving plate, folding the slice and overlapping each slice slightly
- In a small bowl, combine the red onion, daikon and moniji oroshi or chilli paste (to taste)
- Serve next to the seared tataki
- Pour the ponzu sauce into an attractive dipping bowl and serve next to the beef along with the lemon wedge
and spring onions
