Vietnamese Recipe for Lemongrass Tea

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 green shoots lemongrass (leaves)
  • 1 cup boiling water
TIP: This lemongrass tea is made from using the green part of the lemongrass plant (ie. the leaves) and not the white tip (base) which is used for cooking. If you cannot find fresh lemongrass then dried lemongrass can be used however, the flavor is more concentrated so use sparingly.

To prepare:

  • Crush the lemongrass shoots and place in a teacup
  • Variation: you can wrap the leaves in a knot and put them into a heat-proof glass container
  • Pour boiling water over and cover
  • Let steep for 2 to 3 mins
  • Leave the lemongrass in the cup while drinking

Alternative: If you prefer your drink to be iced cold, you can certainly use this recipe. Simply steep the tea for a full 5 mins, let cool then pour over ice. Add sugar syrup to adjust sweetness.
