Singapore Recipe for Crispy Deep Fried Beancurd with Chillies and Salt


INGREDIENTS

  • 3 pieces wrapped beancurd
  • 1 fresh red chillies (diced)
  • 1 spring spring onion (diced)

    MARINADE SAUCE
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp ginger powder
  • 1/2 tsp five spice powder
  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

    BATTER
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp oil (added to batter later)
TIP: This dish should be served immediately after cooked as it will get soggy with time.

To prepare:

  • Mix the batter and leave for 1/2 hour
  • Then add the oil, mixing everything well
  • Cut the beancurd into cubes
  • Wipe the cubes dry with paper towel
  • Using a bowl, combine the ingredients for the marinade
  • Slowly add the marinade to the cubes, mixing well
  • Take care when mixing so the cubes do not break apart
  • Add the spring onion and red chillies to the batter
  • Save a little of the spring onion and red chillies for garnish (option)
  • Deep fry the cubes till crispy then serve
  • Garnish with leftover spring onion and red chillies
