Nossa Escola de
Karate-do Goju-Ryu foi criada pelo Mestre Seiichi
“Shikan” AKAMINE (1920-1995) como Ken-Shin-Kan.
Após a sua morte, um grupo no Uruguay liderados pelo Sensei Radko BALCAR
buscou as raízes do seu Karate-do
em Okinawa e, graças ao Sensei
Ladislav KLEMENTIS da Eslováquia, chegamos ao "Goju-Ryu
Kokusai Karate Kobudo Renmei" que alberga a antiga Shodokan,
do grande mestre Seiko HIGA (1889-1966), quem fora o principal mestre
de Akamine.
Atualmente
esta linha de Goju-Ryu
tem sedes em Okinawa, Japão central, China, Eslovaquia,
França, Portugal, Espanha, Argentina,
Uruguay, Brasil, Estados Unidos e Canadá.

Our original School, the Ken-Shin-Kan, was
founded by Master Seiichi AKAMINE (Okinawa 1920 –
Brazil
1995). Master Akamine started his Martial Arts way with his grandfather
and, formally, under Masters Chomo
HANASHIRO, Kentsu YABU and Chotoku
KYAN (Shuri-te)
until
he met Master
Chojun MIYAGI and devoted himself to the Goju-Ryu. However,
the most
important Goju-Ryu Master
for him was Seiko HIGA, Miyagi’s right hand and also disciple
of the
great Master Kanryo HIGASHIONNA (or Higaonna), the greatest Naha-te Master, and
Kanki
IZUMIGAWA, a senior disciple of Higa Sensei.
Master Akamine also learned from other Masters and Arts, always looking
to follow the traditional Bushido(see
www.kenshinkan.cl
and www.kenshinkanakamine.cl).
He moved
to mainland
Japan to continue his university studies and then he opened a
Dojo,
calling it Shikan-kan, as he was known also as
“Shikan”
Akamine.
In 1957 he
moved to Brazil, being one of the highest ranked Masters to come to
America (8th Dan) and the first Goju-Ryu
Master. In 1959 he
founded the
“Brazilian Karate Association”, having more
than 1000 pupils,
influencing directly or indirectly most of the Goju-Ryu
Masters
that still today teach Karate-do and Kobudo
in Brazil
and even Masters from other styles. But in 1964 he left this
organization.
Later, in 1968, defining his Karate-do as a
“scientific study of the Goju-Ryu”,
he founded the School that makes him immortal in the Karate-do History:
“the School of the strong spirit”, the Ken-Shin-Kan.
His School has spread to Uruguay, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Honduras,
the Unites States, Spain and Australia taking his message:
“Only the strong and pure heart persons may reach the noblest
ideals.” Unfortunately, Master Akamine died in 1995. Some
groups
kept the School, leaded by masters Roberto and Raul Fernández de la
Reguera, from Chile.
During
that time in Okinawa, Seiko HIGA's son, Seikichi HIGA, and other senior
disciples keep the Shodokan
tradition, calling the different Dojo
with different names, but all
being part of the Okinawa
Kokusai Karate & Kobudo Renmei
(co-founded by Seiko Higa in 1957). Masters like Choyu KIYUNA, Seitoku
MATAYOSHI, Eiki KURASHITA, Yusuru OSHIRO, Zensei GUSHIKEN and others,
are the higher grades nowadays. This line of Goju-Ryu
has spread out from Okinawa to central Japan, China, Slovakia, France,
Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, United States and Canada.
Our Group in Uruguay followed the roots of master Akamine's Karate to this
School from Okinawa.
