Designation:
MTA-2 Behemoth Military All-Terrain Mecha Transport and
Assault Vehicle
Names and disposition:
- 2556 Total built by Kraus GMBH (2052-2070)
- 2 Destroyed Transient War 2057
- 2335 Destroyed 4th Robotech War 2063-2068
- 5 Missing
- 15 Scrapped
- 199 In Service 2070
Vehicle's Complement:
- Vehicle crew (150 men)
- Army staff (40 men)
- Security detail (100 men)
- Mobile suit platoon (40 men)
-
Note: The given numbers are approximations; the exact number of
personnel varied somewhat due to operational realities and different ships.
Dimensions:
- Length : 120 meters
- Height : 55 meters
- Width : 35 meters
- Mass : 2,500 metric tons (operational)
Propulsion systems:
- Main Power System(1): RRD Mk 16 fusion furnace. The
powerplant of the MTA-2 vessel can deliver up to 50 Gigawatts of power, and
can operate for two hours at maximum power before overheat initiates
autoshutdown.
- Anti-gravity System (1): 2 Europa Drive Siren
anti-gravity pods.
- Planetary Capabilities: The MTA-2 had atmospheric
capabilities through its anti-gravity system. Cold landings were no problem,
effectively the vehicles were atmospheric bases with orbital descend and
ascend capabilities.
Endurance and mobility limits:
- The dry stores endurance was limited to about 1 week with a full crew
complement. After that, the vehicle needs to restock. Water can be extracted
from atmospheric moisture, if present.
- The fusion furnace can function for about 30 years at normal usage levels
before an energizer rebuild is necessary.
- The maximum sustained atmospheric speed was limited to an airspeed of 475
kph. However, the engine power usually restricted the vehicle to a maximum
speed of 380 kph. The maximum hover time on the anti-gravity systems was
limited only by the maintenance requirements.
- Maximum ground speed over excellent terrain was 200 kph, over rough
terrain this was reduced 60 kph.
Weapon Systems:
- Bofors RIC-13 Reaper Ion Cannon (2): This is a smaller
and less powerful version of the reaper cannon mounted on most warships
reaper cannon and modified to provide excellent atmospheric firepower.
The new cannon delivers a 5000 MJ burst of energy of ten seconds with a
range of around 30 km. These cannon our mounted on the front of the
vehicle.
- Krupp 406mm Rail Cannon Turrets (3): Mass driver cannons in triple
turrets are mounted on either side on to the rear of the vehicle. The
cannons can accelerate a 1200 kg projectile to velocities approaching 300
kps. The ammunition supply for each cannon is 60 projectiles. The turrets
can rotate in the horizontal plane through 140 degrees, and elevate 15
degrees upward. The impact energy of one projectile is 1000 MJ, and
the rate of fire is 10 shots per minute. The available ammunition consists
of KCP Kinetic Core Penetrating (hull penetration rounds), KPI Kinetic
Penetrating Incendiary (plasma incendiary rounds) and MKEP Multiple Kinetic
Energy Penetrator (flechette cluster rounds), the latter as anti-mecha
formation weapons. In addition, this accurate weapon can also be used in
pin-point attacks against ground targets.
- Bofors PL-7 Point Defense turrets (6): Mounted on the
front (2), around the bridge tower (3) and on the rear. These standard
RDF weapons can fire 130 MJ of particle energy four times per second at a
range of 10 km.
- Raytheon Mk 271 Missile Launchers (4): Each launcher has
6 individual launch silos. The silos each contain 6 ready missiles in a
rotating mechanism, which can be reloaded while firing. The ready magazines
store 20 missiles per launcher. These launchers typically fire Avatar
and Savior
missiles. Typical warheads are anti-mecha cluster munitions or conventional
anti-ground warheads. These launchers are located on either side of
the vehicle with two per side.
- Lockheed Mk 267 Surface to Air Missile Launchers (6): These
turrets serve as the secondary anti-mecha weapons of the vehicle. Each
turret has twelve tubes and can fire any type of SAM missiles 250 times
every minute. These turrets are mounted behind armor plating and pop up when
firing and are mounted above the bridge tower (4), and on either side of the
vehicle.
