VIII. Armor
The armor on the SDR-14 is a low-mass lunarium tungsten composite plating that is the standard for most Terran mecha. Aside from the good protection provided against projectiles, missiles, and other kinetic weapons, this armor is also resistant to plasma globes (annihilation discs), lasers, and fair against, particle guns too, owing to the fact that the armor can flake off and evaporate in layers under fire from such high-energy weapons, taking much of the weapon's energy and converting it into the latent heat of sublimation in the armor. The armor stops all small arms fire, and has good resistance to all weapons commonly mounted on combat mecha.
The Tiger provides full protection from nuclear, biological, and chemical hazards, using an overpressure cockpit environment activated by radiation and hazardous chemical sensors, or manually when biological warfare conditions are anticipated. The internal consumables supplies can provide atmosphere for three days maximum.
IX. Development
Following in the footsteps of both the Shark and Phalanx, the Tiger was a missile destroid providing long range aerial suppression fire and long range artillery fire. Designed in 2048 by Three Star Heavy Industries to complement the new MBR-25 Atma, the Tiger was designed to be more powerful at long range than any mecha ever developed save for the HWR-04 Godzilla. During fire tests it was able to demolish many mecha before they even came to close range and when they did manage to get to close range they were meet with enough firepower to hold their own for a short time till reinforcements could arrive. As such the RDF Space Marines, Marines and Army adopted the Tiger in 2050.
Following the same path as far as long range armament as previous missile destroids, the SDR-14 has large missile drums, but not just two but four! These drums can each hold 28 missiles with fourteen ready to fire at once. Within five seconds all 112 missiles can be fired in a single volley capable of destroying even the most determined foe. Reloading these missiles is quite easy and can be done in the field by simply switching the drums out for new ones which takes around five minutes for all four drums giving the Tiger increased battlefield endurance. In order to use these weapons the Tiger mounts a powerful electronics suite like the one on the ADR-14 Razor giving the Tiger a maximum radar range of around 400 km.
For close range combat the Tiger includes a pair of laser cannons mounted in the chest for anti-personnel and light anti-mecha duty. For close to short range combat the Tiger also mounts a set of mini missile launchers capable of destroying most mecha if all fired at once together buying the Tiger time to make an escape or wait for reinforcements. Of course the Tiger should rarely have to use these close in weapons in theory as the long range fire power is so immense.
In practice this theory held true for most of the Tiger's service life and few Tiger's were lost to enemy action. As such the Tiger held a kill ratio on the average of 35 to 1 and retained this ratio during the Transient War of 2057 and only when the Neld Fleet sent hundreds of mecha against a destroid division did any break though for close combat as long as the SDR-14 and ADR-14 were around. However, like the MBR-25 the weakness of the SDR-14 came against huge numbers like those faced in the 4th Robotech War. Even with 112 missiles the SDR-14 was still overwhelmed by the sheer number of enemy mecha and as such had to rely on its close in firepower. While this many times did save the Tiger, it was not enough most of the time not trough any design flaw, but just through being outnumbered.
Following the 4th Robotech War the Tiger continued to serve mostly as shipboard defense however as the a new missile destroid took its place with the Army and Marines beginning in 2070.
