These are gifts, not donations. In order to make a donation, I would have to set up and run a non-profit organization (I checked into it). That would take up so much time and bureaucratic effort that it would dig deeply into the time I could devote to the groups - and that would be counterproductive and defeat the larger goal.
Gifts allow me to use 100% of the money to meet my goals, rather than to administer a bureaucracy that will give me some money to meet some goals.
Of course, the downside is that there is no tax deduction for gifts. If I see that the gifts reach a point that it is worth pursuing the non-profit organization, I will be willing to do so.
