.......Macroeconomics.......EXTRA CREDIT!!!
There are two types of extra credit opportunities available to you in this course. One is the THE WALL STREET JOURNAL project, which will count as 20% (40% if you use the ALL ONLINE OPTION) of your course grade. The other is a set of eight current events extra credit projects, each of which requires you to do some minor research. When you scroll down to the end of this file, you can click on the various extra credit opportunities to see the details of each project. They are worth one point each and will be added to your final exam score. All of your extra credit work should be submitted together at the end of the course.
The Wall Street Journal
Guidelines for this project are as follows:
- After you establish a subscription to the online or print WSJ, you will select a total of twenty articles (forty for the ALL ONLINE OPTION) for this project. If you use the Interactive online edition, then go to the Front Page, scroll down a little, and click on Economy on the left side of the screen. Each day there will be a number of articles. If you use the print edition of the WSJ, then go to page two of the front section (section A). This is a prime location for articles about macroeconomics. You can also check the lead articles on the front page of the first section. In addition, look at the front page of the Marketplace section (section B). Search for articles about unemployment, inflation, GDP, personal income, the federal reserve system, and international trade. Send email if you have any difficulty finding the articles you need.
- In your own words, summarize the content of each article. The length of each summary should be 100 to 150 words.
- Your WSJ project should be word processed, not hand written. Print out your summaries and bring them with you when you come in to take your final exam. Be sure to use a consistent font style throughout. Use a font size of either 12 or 14 and double-space.
- Make sure you have the required number of summaries. A five-point deduction will be taken for each missing article.
- You do not need to photocopy the articles. Just submit the summaries. Indicate the date, author, and title of each article you choose.
- Call the WSJ at either 1-800-975-8602 or 1-800-369-2834 or go to wsj.com/student for further information on the different subscription options.
- If you experience any difficulty with your online subscription, then call the WSJ at 1-800-369-2834.
- Send email if you have any questions about this project.
