Chock-A-Block Weekend

Where do I begin...
Friday was spent running around Shoppingtown. It is no secret that I do not enjoy shopping, unless I am hunting down presents for friends. I stopped by an arts'n'craft stall, where a candle caught my eye. It was a large candle of varying shades of blue and purple, which had a cupid shaped into its side. The cupid was pink with sprinkles of gold, silver, navy and magenta, orange and yellow, covering it. The cupid held a lute in its chubby arms. Diamantes were imbedded at various intervals around the body of the candle...and the cupid had a crown made of Rose Quartz crystals (purple in colour). It was spectacular!

A friend with whom I spoke to about the candle, said that I should have bought it and placed it on my mantle piece. However, as much as the candle appealed to me, when I saw it, I was thinking of a friend whom I wanted to buy it for, even though it was not a practical gift. The price tag was a mere $45. Not much for something so beautiful, yet despite this, it was very unpractical..but I was sorely tested.

Saturday, I overheard a mother talking to her 6 year old son. She asked him to go with his father and the child refused. The mother looked down to her child who was clinging onto his mother's skirt and said "Go with your father or I'll kick you". The child obeyed.
Shocked..I thought to myself, 'Nah' Perhaps my hearing was at a loss. (I hoped it was!) Perhaps she'd actually said 'Go with your father and I'll kiss you'. Maybe that's wishfull thinking...hmmm.

Despite not living with my parents for over 20 months now, it is amazing that on visiting them on the weekend how quickly I could slip back into roles which I once occupied. It happened without prior thought to the matter, it was as though I had never left. I could sense my mother's mood and her eyes reflected her every thought. How keenly I could sense her feelings!

Saturday night (11/10/97) hubby and I went to the Hewlett Packard Ball at the new Crown Casino complex at Southbank. It was my first time at the Casino. The foyer had a music, light and water display which I found fascinating. The water shot out in all different directions and in all different colours (lights were used), jumping streams and droplets the size of golf balls. The music (symphonic works) was used as background to holographic images shone on the walls as the ceiling (small hollow glass tubes) lit up in multicolours. At one stage the chandalier smoked (dry ice) at the same time as the water fountains began to smoke. It was awesome! However, for those who have bladder control problem, I would think it would be very uncomfortable for them (this nurse's humour just has to stop - sich huh!).

Back to the ball - Sat at a table of 10. Finally met the wife of one of the hubbie's that works with mine. I invited them over for dinner in 2 weeks (Should be a fun night :)). The MC was Richard Wilkins (MTV host) and the entertainment was Debra Byrnes (Grizzelda of Cat's), Big Bob Valentino (? I dunno) and the band was 'Reflections of'. Although very loud, the band was great, playing a selection of all time favourites, golden oldies, ballroom, jazz and jive, through to modern disco and dance music. I had alot of fun, spending most of my time on the dancefloor. Hubby's toes started to hurt, so my newly found friend danced with me :) that was sweet. I chatted with a few of hubby's co-worker's wives...found out she was a nurse ( I must have that tattooed on my forehead or something!). Stimulating conversation! Anyway we left at 1am as we'd both had very very hard days and hubby was extra-specially grumpy by then. My parents picked us up from the Casino, as they were gambling in the other section, whilst we were at the ball.

Sunday we slept in. I was on the net when hubby brought home unexpected guests. The house was in a state of Kaos. Oh! what a disaster! Well they were really sweet and I made a friend very quickly. She will be teaching me a few guitar tips. I can't wait. She lives very close, so she has invited us over for dinner one night (in 2 weeks time). I am looking foward to it.

Went to see 'The Game' last night after saying goodbye to a friend who will be going up to Darwin for 2 months (:(). We will both miss him, but he should be back before X-mas. The film was very slow, but interesting. The ending however was excellent, so it was disappointing that they had dragged out the rest of the film. The plot was very cleverly mastered, yet still it wasn't all I expected it to be. Win some, loose some!

Vandals got into Andres Serrano's art exhibition and vandalized 'Pissed Christ', so now the exhibition has been shut down for the safety and wellbeing of all the visitors. The entire week, this picture has made headlines....Well art is art and as Oscar Wilde said

"All bad art is the result of good intentions" Hmmm....not sure if I'd totally agree.

Time for bed now..it is early am...
Ciao for now

Soosh :)
