A Miserable Day

Yesterday, no sooner had I been booted from my puter, my cat's waters broke. I spent three hours rubbing her tummy and waiting for her contractions to begin. After 5 1/2 hours of waiting, I knew something was wrong, I rang my vet at 22:30 hours. He wasn't hopeful either.

'Squirrel' woke me at 05:45 this morning with her meowking and her jumping at the door handle. Thinking that she was having contractions I brought her to my bed (I put her on a towel) and rubbed her tummy. When hubby woke up at 06:45, I got him to babysit her whilst I had my shower. No sign of kittens. So, as organised the night before, I took her at 07:30 to the vet.

Our vet is approx. 35 kms away from where I live, but he is THEbest, so we travel to him no matter what time of day. When I left home the speedometer showed I had done 69kms since last petrol fill up. I had only had 3 1/2 hours sleep, so I drove in a daze, but I managed to get to the vet by 08:30am. He took x-rays of 'Squirrel', but he couldn't see much in her uterus except for a the outline of a kitten, a large kitten. I said to him that it was possible that she had two kittens in there because the x-ray was taken from a lateral perspective. He put Squirrel on a drip and scheduled surgery (caesarian) for 12:00.

I went to pick up my mother, took her to Boobie's flat, so that the carpenter could install new carpet in her (Boobie's) bedroom. Went to buy fish for dinner, and took mum to the mechanic so that she could pick up a courtesy car (Don't ask - but she blew up the motor and head gaskett). Then we met up at the hospital where my granny is.

Whilst I was visiting her (awaiting her return from x-ray), her roommate ( a hip replacement) was telling me her life story in 5 minutes. I appeared to be interestedly disinterested, as my mind was elsewhere, but she continued to jabber away until my mother came in, and the women started to jabber to my mum.

Boobie was really sick last time I visited her. She looked like she was knocking on heavens door, but this time she had her colour back, despite carrying alot of fluid and being chesty, she was much improved. So that made me feel better. I treated my mother (30 min) with laser acupuncture whilst we visited and talked with my Grandma. I gave Boobie some acupuncture aswell, but it was really subtheraputic, because I didn't have much time left before I had to go to see my Cat's caesarian.

At 15:00hours I asked if I could take 'Squirrel' home. I was told after 16:00hours, so in the mean time I visited my Sis-In-Law and my 11 week old nephew (who is the spitting image of my brother). I stayed there for 1/2 hour and then drove back to my vet to pick up my cat. Then I remembered that I asked my mum to put the fish in her fridge so it wouldn't get bad in my car. So I picked up my cat, saw the vet bill and nearly died; went to my mum's picked up the fish and drove all the way home. Speedometer read 148kms. 80 kms is not that much, but with all the different things in between, no wonder I was tired when I got home at 17:30 hours!

My friends are here now. They are having dinner with us, so better go..

Sorry I couldn't give you better news...More to tell you about when I brought the cat home shortly, but if you want the name of my excellent vet (Its worth your while to find out who he is, if you live in Melbourne) email me for the info.

Hope the weekend is better....
