Once a year, there is a Volksmarch to the top of Crazy Horse. The annual Volksmarch, held each June, is the only time the public is allowed on the mountain.
The Crazy Horse 10K (6.2 mile) volksmarch is sponsored by the American Volksport Association.
Trails are well-marked on a route through steep, forested terrain and along work roads leading up to the Crazy Horse mountain carving. The walk is at a higher altitude and the uppermost elevation is in excess of 6600 feet above sea level.
The 1998 Crazy Horse Volksmarch set national records with 14,804 Volksmarchers walking to the top of the arm of Crazy Horse.
Volksmarchers came from 49 states, plus Washington D.C. and 14 foreign coutries. Rhode Island was the only state not represented.
