Devil's Post Pile... "More Info" Just down the trail from Red Meadows!

Well a little about me. I have always loved the outdoors.  When I was a young child, my Father took time out to make sure his sons appreciated the Great outdoors. We got involved in Boy Scouts of America; starting with Troop 883 out of San Diego, Ca.! Well.. this troop was not your typical drive in style of camping adventurers, yes our leaders made sure of that, we were the Hiking Troop!

One of the most memorable times of my life was when we hiked 75 Miles of the John Muir Trail "A picture tour" in the Sierra Mountains. It was a time when I was a mere lad, only 12 years of age….I still can here my Father’s words after asking him…."How much further is it to camp" he'd counter with, "Count your paces son!"

Well, needless to say….after the trek was over……the dust and memories are still apart of me, as vivid as those loving words my Father once said…..For today, like my journey through the back country trails, I count my paces through life!
Thanks Father for those inspirational words, which carry me through LIFE.

This page will give you a look into the World's Greatest Trails!

The Trail Log of our Trex...Uncovered from some dark attic space....
Thanks Tony.....I'll always remember our adventure.....!!!
Before you enter our adventure I find it only befitting to preface your journey.  Before any of the Scouts could take this journey a test was placed before them.  We had to first earn two ranks, raise the money, plan the trek a year out, and yes......prepare for this 75 mile adventure by climbing Mount San Jacinto (the mountain that shadows Palm Springs).  You could take the tram to the top of San Jacinto....but walking up the backside of it is more fun.....right Norm?

I owe so much to those Men who took time with us when we were young boys.  Mr. Riddle, your knowledge of the great outdoors always inspired me.  Mr. Lazada, your cooking was fantastic, giving the limited ingredients you had to prepare with, (still can't stomach bacon bits and powdered eggs).  Norman, though I have not kept in touch with you through the years, I am very proud to call you my brother....though you are quite older than I.....*smiling*  I know your involvement with us, the scouts of Troop 883, helped lead us to manhood!  To Mr. Gentry (My Father),  yes, we, his sons, were not permitted to call him Dad when we were with the scouts, for all his scouts were his boys...........  Mr. Gentry, your eagerness to take six boys into the wilderness and return with all six is more profound than you know.  It is ironic, to know six boys entered the adventure of their lives and six young men emerged!  My only hope today....some 23 years later is to do it again!

To the scouts who I journeyed through God's Splendor.......Our lives have been touched by a greatness, we share a common bond that many people can only imagine, we are truly blessed.  One last note: this is to Mike Bryant.......I hope you understand the economics of Supply and Demand! (Still have the ten dollars that you gave me for 2 pieces of beef jerky........hence: at 10,000 feet, the price of beef is at a premium!!!!!

To those who were not on the adventure.....please read the wonderful words of my brother Tony inside, he wisely states how we all must feel.......Enjoy!
