Review:
A
gripping tale of a German U-boat in WWII. Confined in tight living quarters and
trapped underwater the claustrophobia reigns supreme. I've never felt an experience
like the one given in this movie. It brings you into the boat and holds you for
three terrifying hours. -Reviewed by Mark Caldwell.

Review:
Das Boot is arguably one of the most highly suspenseful movies of all-time.
The photography in this movie is unlike anything I've ever seen. Somehow the camera
is able to capture all of the choas in very tight quarters. I recommend watching
the "making of" feature on the DVD. The use of sound is amazing as well.
Every creak, shriek, and groan is captured here in horrific detail. For it's time,
and perhaps with the exception of Life is Beautiful,
it is the most popular foreign language film ever released in the United States.
Das Boot was nominated for six Academy Awards. Wolfgang Petersen was nominated
for both Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director. Other nominated categories
included cinematography, editing, sound, and sound effects. Petersen says his
vision for the film was, "to show the gritty and terrible reality of war and
to combine it with a highly entertaining story and fast-paced action style that
would pull audiences into the experience of these young men."-Review by Aaron
