Review:Quills,
which is set in an insane asylum in 19th-century France, follows the
last years of author Marquis De Sade's troubled life. Geoffery Rush's
performance as the Marquis de Sade is really something to marvel. Kate
Winslet is excellent as Madeline, a decent woman who still finds herself
drawn to the Marquis' pornographic writings. Joaquin Phoenix, fresh
from the film Gladiator, gives a
terrific supporting performance as someone who wants to be a friend
to others but ends up hurting himself. Anticensorship and anti-religion
are at the core of this movie. One of the best films of 2000. -Review
