Memorable quotes:

1) Goeth: You know, I look at you. I watch you. You're not a drunk. That's, that's real control. Control is power. That's power. Schindler: Is that why they fear us? Goeth: We have the fucking power to kill, that's why they fear us. Schindler: They fear us because we have the power to kill arbitrarily. A man commits a crime, he should know better. We have him killed and we feel pretty good about it. Or we kill him ourselves and we feel even better. That's not power, though, that's justice. That's different than power. Power is when we have every justification to kill - and we don't. Goeth: You think that's power. Schindler: That's what the emperors had. A man stole something, he's brought in before the emperor, he throws himself down on the ground, he begs for mercy, he knows he's going to die. And the emperor pardons him. This worthless man, he lets him go. Goeth: I think you are drunk. Schindler: That's power, Amon. That is power. (Schindler gestures toward Goeth as a merciful emperor) Amon, the Good. Goeth: (He smiles and laughs) I pardon you.

2) Schindler: That's it. You can finish that page. Stern: What did Goeth say about this? You just told him how many people you needed, and - you're not buying them. You're buying theem? You're paying him for each of these names? Schindler: If you were still working for me, I'd expect you to talk me out of it. It's costing me a fortune. Finish the page and leave one space at the bottom. Stern: The list is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.

3) Schindler: I could've got more...I could've got more, if I'd just...I could've got more... Stern: Oskar, there are eleven hundred people who are alive because of you. Look at them. Schindler: If I'd made more money...I threw away so much money, you have no idea. If I'd just... Stern: There will be generations because of what you did. Schindler: I didn't do enough. Stern: You did so much. Schindler: This car. Goeth would've bought this car. Why did I keep the car? Ten people, right there. Ten people, ten more people...(He rips the swastika pin from his lapel) This pin, two people. This is gold. Two more people. He would've given me two for it. At least one. He would've given me one. One more. One more person. A person, Stern. For this. I could've gotten one more person and I didn't.

Review: Schindler's List is Steven Spielberg's (Jaws, Close Encounters of a Third Kind, ET) award-winning, three-hour long epic of the Holocaust. Spielberg didn't fall back on his old gimmicks/tricks to capture the attention and emotion of the audience. The violence is graphic here, but it is absolutely necessary. With the use of handheld cameras, you feel like your right there. I was also impressed at the casting, no major Hollywood stars appear in the film. As the SS officer, Ralph Fiennes is both terrifying and riveting. Neeson is strong, showing us a flawed character who eventually does well. Neeson and Fiennes were nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, respectively. Schindler's List won seven Academy Awards in total, including those for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Cinematography (Janusz Kaminski), Best Film Editing, Best Score (John Williams), and Best adapted screenplay. -Review by Aaron Caldwell
