1)Jack:
The pain now is part of the happiness then.
2)
C.S. Lewis: He comes; he sleeps; he goes. So the plot thickens.
3)Harry:
Christopher can scoff, Jack, but I know how hard you've been praying; and now
God is answering your prayers. C. S. Lewis:
That's not why I pray, Harry. I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because
I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and
sleeping. It doesn't change God, it changes me.
4)Joy
Gresham: We can't have the happiness of yesterday without the pain of today. That's
the deal.
Review:Shadowlands,
directed by Richard Attenborough (Chaplin,
Ghandi), is an intelligent, moving, and beautifully acted film.
This may be Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the
Lambs, Remains of the Day, Chaplin,
The Elephant Man) greatest perfomance
ever. When Hopkins character finally finds true love after being alone
for so long, it is torn away as soon as his world was beginning to blossom.
The film deals with philosophical topics such as lost childhoods, intellect
versus emotion, and pain versus pleasure. Reviewed by Aaron Caldwell
