Ben Ziegler's Top 100 Movie List (10/04/01)

1. THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION {1994} Frank Darabont directs a maving and powerful prison drama - it has everything i look for in a movie, great acting, superb music, excellent location, top cast, a sharp witty dialogue and a twist at the end probably the greatest in movie history.
2. GOODFELLAS {1990} The greatest Gangster movie ever! i just love this movie - i love the cast, De Niro is as usual fantastic, Liotta delivers a shocking performance and Pesci steals the show with his monstrous portrayal as Tommy. Sheer Scorcese magic.
3. SAVING PRIVATE RYAN {1998} I am a huge fan of Spielberg and this movie is his greatest acheivement yet without a doubt - teh opening d-day landing scene is the greatest i've ever seen in terms of realism. and when you look at performances from Tom Hanks like Forest Gump to his role in this movie you can say he sure is one of the greatest actors alive.
4. PULP FICTION {1994} Tarantino is a firm favourite of mine, i mean the dude can't go wrong her with this comic book style black comedy - Travolta and Jackson rule in this movie they are the best thing in it.
5. SEVEN {1995} David Fincher is the man - he is the god of mind-fucks and the ending in this movie is the greatest ever perhaps - i mean it's totally unexpecting - and Pitt and Freeman are the perfect partners with loony performances.
6. JERRY McGUIRE {1996} Cameron Crowe is the king of fictional biopics for damn sure - Tom Cruise is forgiven - he's a god on hollywood drugs and Cuba Gooding Jnr has the talent - he has the talent.
7. SCARFACE {1983} If this isn't in anybodies top ten then you really must be afraid of Pacino's insane performance - there is no body on earth that can match his style in this movie.
8. L.A CONFIDENTIAL {1997} Crowe, Spacey, Basinger - what more can you ask for? three Oscar winning actors in a truly stylish masterpeice from some director called Hanson.
9. FIGHT CLUB {1999} This movie is the ultimate mind-fuck an like i said Fincher is the king of mind-fucks - Pitt is again the top-dog here and Norton is a new star born.
10. CRUEL INTENTIONS {1999} This small debut feature from Roger Kumble has everything - but the main reason why it's in the top ten is because Ryan Phillippe who plays Sebastian Valmont scared the shit out of me when he played a character that very closely resembled me - i thought it was a biopic on me. 11. ALMOST FAMOUS {2000} I have just seen the movie and loved it - i am now officially a Cameron Crowe fan - Hudson has nice tits.
12. THE MATRIX {1999} i've never seen anything like it - full stop.
13. THE BIG LEBOWSKI {1998} You've got to love the Coen brothers style - they have all the wit and style to deliver a masterpiece - their best movie.
14. RESERVOIR DOGS {1992} Tarantino again what more can you say - style, great music and funny in parts with alot of fucked-up violence.
15. FULL METAL JACKET I'm a real fan of War films and this is the second best war film ever with a truly evil sense of hell at war - Kubrick rarely fails to impress.
16. AMERICAN BEAUTY {1999} Its also English beauty aswell beacuse Sam Mendes who is English directs a beautiful story.
17. GLADIATOR {2000} Isn't Scott Englisj- yes he is - the Americans tried to get most of the credit despite the movie being infested with european talent - is Crowe American, only Pheonix and Nelson deliver teh goods for the Americans here.
18, TAXI DRIVER Scorcese Magic i love it - Foster the child prodigy and De Niro the man.
19. APOCALYSPE NOW I haven't seen all of it but already recard it as a masterpiece - when i see the whole film it could be in my top ten.
20. THE THIN RED LINE Another war film with an a-list cast.
21. BEING JOHN MALKOVICH Spike Jonse is a masterful young Director and i dig his style - very original and Malkovich is hilarious sending himself up.
22. PLATOON Vietnam seems to always be glorified in some way but this and METAL JACKET are true emotional and moving experiences.
23. FOREST GUMP Hanks delivers his greatest performance ever - how does he do it?
24. JACOBS LADDER Adrian Lyne the Director of this movie has potential to be an Oscar winner if he keeps on making freaky movies like these.
25. JACKIE BROWN Cool, stylish and violent with a twist of humour.
26. FARGO those Coens are too good to be true.
