The Pre-Luncheon Reception

Aaron's guests walked into a sprawling lobby with lofty ceilings and were immediately greeted with Aaron's smiling visage, yellow matted and mounted on a blue denim poster board that leaned against a tall easel.

Aaron's Poster Board Card

Blue and yellow, as it was revealed later in the "Aaron Trivia Game", are Aaron's favorite colors.

Alongside, on the reception table, was a darling balloon arrangement and a teddy bear with a marking pen tethered to it:

The poster board, as it turned out, was a giant card for Aaron. His guests filled every corner of the card with signatures, well wishes and sentiments.  All the naughty ones behaved and resisted scrawling a curled mustache, pointy beard, blackened teeth and horns on Aaron's angelic face.

Poster board cards are a wonderful alternative to the old-fashioned guest book which is relegated to the back of the shelf soon after the event. Instead, Aaron will enjoy this one-of-a-kind piece of Bar Mitzvah memorabilia for years to come.  Besides, Celia, his mom, will much prefer to see her son's face looking back at her from his bedroom, instead of some skimpily-clad, teeny-bopper flaunting her belly button.

Off to the right of the lobby was an elegant lounge with plush royal purple sectionals, cocktail tables and dramatic overhead lighting, a perfect spot for the reception that preceded the luncheon.

The guests schmoozed as they whetted their appetites with delicious hors d'oeurvres of vegetable crudite and ranch dressing, fresh fruit with yogurt dip, Swedish meatballs and sesame fried chicken. Some wet their whistles with drinks from the soft drink bar, while others enjoyed the punch from the three-tier fountain.

Our host, Eddie, schmoozing.

At the far end of the lounge was a table filled with place cards with names and table numbers, which proved to be a most efficient way to let guests know to which table they were assigned.
