ABC Soaps-In-Depth - September 7, 1999 Issue - "Is Rae Skye's Mother?"

The In Depth Story:
After portraying Adam Chandler's trouble-making daughter, Skye, on ALL MY CHILDREN from 1987 to 1991, Christopher joined AW in 1994 as Lorna Devon, the incendiary offspring of Dano's glamorously eccentric Felicia Gallant.
Now that Christopher has joined OLTL - closely on the heels of Dano's own arrival - there's been speculation that Rae eventually will be be revealed as Skye's mother. Indeed, Christopher herself has been left to wonder if her character's ties to Llanview extend beyond ex-beau Ben, and are perhaps a bit more familial.
"[Linda] and I already taped a scene where Skye and Rae are introduced. We kind of look at each other, and there's a moment…" the actress says cryptically, letting her persoanl theories end there. "But I don't know. Supposedly, Skye's mother had been in a coma and then died." Then again, this is soap opera life, and as Christopher notes, "anything can happen." Related to her Bay City mom or not, Christopher is thoroughly excited to again share a set with Dano. "It's just great to be here with Linda!"

Sonny deserves anything he gets," [Robin Christopher] theorizes. "To Skye, he represents all the male issues she ahs in her life, concentrated into one. It's her sort of lashing out against anyone who ever told her that she’s not worth anything.

"To use Sonny to get Jax is almost - in her own twisted way - an honest way to get Jax," she continues. "If she can use Sonny to get Jax to know her better, she's servicing two goals with one effort."

"She's almost at her wit's end," Christopher acknowledges. "That's how much she's drawn to Jax. He's like no other man she has ever known. She wants him so badly that she feels like she has to pull out all the stops. She's almost on the verge of losing control. She's willing to let herself go to get him. She knows that if she gets him, then it's serious.

"Can [Skye] handle that? I don't know."

Even Alan sees his daughter as a conniver. "Call it what you will," retorts Robin Christopher (Skye). "She's still going to get her way."

Heck, can she pursue a relationship with Jax when she can't even hang on to her own father, Alan? "That's why she's going after Jax so wholeheartedly," says Christopher. "It's almost like Skye is realizing that, 'I've got to start building my own life, taking care of myself. I just can't depend on family or fitting in with Daddy.'

"Jax almost offers her that last chance, in a way," she goes on. "If she doesn't get this guy, this great person, she feels that she may never have a chance like this again."

"This could be the one great love of her life," marvels Christopher. "She's never had that. To give in to somebody like that is a whole change of thinking and [a new] way of being for her. She's afraid of screwing up.

"Skye is being very childish and immature," she adds. "She doesn't think things through emotionally. She goes for the immediate gratification. But there's all the nervousness building up [inside her], and there's all that sexual tension. It's very Skye to say, 'Let's just do it.' There would be no pretense, and it would be out of the way. But after that, the really scary part begins!"

"Ingo is very free as a person, even on the set," marvels his leading lady. Rademacher is equally impressed. "Robin knows her craft," he says, "so we can play around with it."

One GH viewer is happy to finally see some family togetherness. "A.J. and Skye are the two ugly ducklings of the Quartermaine household," a fan writes via E-mail. "These two have so many issues, but somehow they find comfort in supporting and trusting each other. They are also a lot alike. I hope that they can both finally find love with a companion and grow as people. I want to see the Quartermaines united and standing strong, not apart."

Q: My friend and I are having a disagreement.  She bet me $50 that Skye Chandler is the GENERAL HOSPITAL character's birth name.  But I could swear I remember the name Antoinette being used when first appeared on ALL MY CHILDREN.  Am I $50 richer? - Via the Internet

A:  Yes, you are.  When Skye first moved to Pine Valley in 1986, she went by the name Skye Patterson before reuniting with her long-lost dad, Adam.  Skye's real name is Antoinette, and she's also been known as Toni.  To make things even more confusing, the role was originally played by actress Antoinette Byron, before Robin Christopher took over the part in 1987.

Congratulations, GENERAL HOSPITAL.  You may have hit a gold mine with the pairing of Jax and Skye.  Their love/hate relationship has so much potential.  Skye needs someone like Jax, who won't put up with her greed and manipulation, and Jax needs someone like Skye, who will knock him down a peg or two when he behaves like an arrogant jerk.  Not since Brenda have I seen such a perfect match for Jax.  Chloe was too soft, and Alexis was a better friend - but Skye just sizzles when she's around the Aussie hunk.  Wouldn't it be something to watch Jax and Skye go head to head with Sonny and Carly?  I'd pay to see that fight. - A.B., Indianapolis, IN

What's a characteristic of Jax's (Ingo Rademacher) that attracts Skye?  Robin Christopher says:

"Confidence.  With him, it's the real deal.  She really finds that so attractive and would love that for herself."

Jax and Skye's love scene sent more than a few hearts racing!  "Loved them at the cabin," writes a fan via E-mail.  "They were hot and intense!"

Soap Opera Digest - Mid-2001 - "Getting a Complex (Story)"

Skye, Hi! It was her birth father (Adam Chandler) and her identity that Skye was searching for when she stormed into ALL MY CHILDREN’s Pine Valley in 1986.  there on and off until last year, Skye not only accumulated a reputation for trouble (blackmailing, alcoholism, scheming, etc.), but she slid unsuccessfully through a bunch of relationships.  In 1999, she popped up on ONE LIFE TO LIVE as the surprise wife of Ben Davidson and continued to wreak havoc.  In Llanview, she not only learned that her mother was actually Rae Cummings, but she also found out that Adam was not really her father.  Earlier this year, she followed Rae to P.C., where she discovered that Alan was her dad (a revelation “proved” by pages of a Bible that Rae came into possession of).  Skye quickly set up stakes within her latest family and has been shaking things up ever since.

Christopher on the Long and Winding Road:

During her AMC run, Skye had a lot of names – Antoinette, Toni, Patterson. “Antoinette is Skye’s real name.  And she used to be a lounge singer, so she made up this lounge-act name, which was Skye Patterson.  But she was really Antoinette Chandler.  Toni’s just short for Antoinette.”

With all of the romances Skye had, when did she have time to become Ben’s wife? “Well, there was a good year or two in between.  It was a whirlwind relationship where basically, they were in Vegas, they kind of got crazy and they decided to go and get married.  But, of course, Ben woke up the next day and was like, ‘What the hell did I do?’  She was one of Ben’s mistakes.”

So, do we have any rock-solid proof of Skye’s parentage? “Well, we have Rae saying Skye is her daughter.  And there are the Bible pages; they’re the proof.”

Is it at all strange to you to play scenes opposite Maurice Benard (Sonny), who played Nico Kelly on AMC, one of Skye’s objects of desire? “It’s so funny.  I don’t really remember [the characters’ AMC connection].  I think it was such a short, little thing.  Now, Maurice is playing Sonny.  And he’s still not interested in Skye [laughs]!  Go figure!”

Is Skye finally in her element with the Qs? “Yes.  After all those names and all those years… She walked into this incredibly dysfunctional family that is so wacky that in a funny way, she doesn’t feel quite as hampered by her own weaknesses.  It’s almost like, ‘It’s okay to be who I am.’”

Skye Chandler Quartermaine (Robin Christopher) – General Hospital

HAIR:  “I put a straightener in her hair – Senscience Smoothing Gel,” says Stylist Michael Anton.  “Then, I blew it straight with a big round brush.  I use a Super Solano hair dryer, and I used the attachment on the end, which made her hair smoother.  I sectioned off her hair and left the front out.  I twisted the back up into a ponytail, then pushed the ponytail forward and pinned it.  I pinned up the front and the sides with bobby pins, too.  It’s pretty easy to do.”

MAKEUP:  “I started with foundation [Joe Blasco Olive-Beige 1 or 2],” notes Makeup Artist Cyndilee Rice, “then a translucent powder by Ben Nye called Fair.  I did a peachy blush by M.A.C., then a little Clinique Auburn brow powder.  I used M.A.C. Surreal eye shadow, which we used as a shadow and as a liner.  I wet it, made it into an eyeliner and put it in a thicker line as liner, then put some up into her crease.  I mixed in some brown in her crease: M.A.C. Espresso.  I put M.A.C. black cream liner under the eye and then a thin line on top of her eye, so the blue eye shadow line was thicker.  So, it’s actually two lines.  And then blend, blend, blend.  You can never blend too much.  The kind of mascara I use all the time is Maybelline Illegal Lengths in black.  On her lips is a M.A.C. Walnut liner and a M.A.C. color called CB 96.  It’s a peachy gold-ish color.”  For less pricey blush and shadows, try La Femme.

WARDROBE:  “On the outside, it’s a beige Donna Karan cashmere coat.  It’s about $1,000,” shares Costume Designer Lori Robinson.  “Underneath, it’s a double-roll, cashmere aqua tank, with a matching ribbed cardigan and wool-gabardine pants.  It’s all Versace.  I got it at a Versace outlet store.  She also had a matching Versace bag and spike-heeled pumps.  I think I got it all for $800.  You might be able to find something similar to this at a Loehmann’s or Ann Taylor.  I got her big pinky ring at a store in Los Angeles called Tehen Boutique.  It’s done with glass beads, which is so popular right now.  You can get something like it at Rampage or Claire’s for about $10.  I bought it for around $40.  If you really want to go all out, you can go to Barney’s and get one for about $1,400, but then again, you can go around the corner to a little knockoff jewelry boutique and get the same look.”
Soap Opera Update- May 7, 2002 Issue - "Couple Close-Up"

GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Skye and Jax are a couple whose relationship was not made in Heaven.  Can their fiery romance last?

Jasper “Jax” Jacks and Antoinette “Skye” Chandler, despite each having nicknames, were an unlikely duo.  He was getting over the loss of his beloved murdered girlfriend Chloe Morgan.  She had come to Port Charles from Llanview (via Pine Valley) to establish her rightful place as the daughter and heir of Alan Quartermaine.  The two crossed paths over business in the Quartermaine boardroom and ended up in the bedroom!  Can this newfound couple’s love survive?

In The Beginning
Since her arrival in town, Skye had many of her defenses up in order to keep from being attacked emotionally.  And who could blame her?  The red-haired heroine was fighting for a place in her won family.  Skye didn’t waste time before getting involved in ELQ business, so that led to her crossing baths with Jax.  When they initially met, Jax and Skye couldn’t deny the attraction that they felt towards one another.  While many saw Skye as an opportunistic troublemaker, Jax saw beneath the surface of this embittered and beautiful woman.  He could tell that there was caring and potential inside her.
When Skye got in over her head and wound up in jail (after trying to pull a scam on her newfound grandfather Edward), Jax used his clout with the Quartermaine patriarch and got him to drop the charges.  Skye found herself mixing it up behind bars with professional troublemaker and all-around evil Helena Cassadine.  Jax came to Skye’s rescue just in time.  It wouldn’t be the last time either.
While Skye may have gotten a “Get Out Of Jail” card, courtesy of the handsome Jax, the games had just begun!  Skye conspiring with her half-brother A.J. led to her getting into many more jams.  Jax couldn’t help but be drawn to Skye since she was being drawn into the web of mobster Sonny Corinthos.  Jax rescuing any woman from Sonny would always strike an emotional chord because of his beloved Brenda, the woman that Jax and Sonny fought over on more than one occasion.

A Partner In Crime
Calculating Skye realized that she could use Jax’s history with Sonny to her advantage.  A.J. proved to be the perfect ally in her attempts to meet that goal.  A.J. and Skye visited the meat locker where Sonny had A.J. held captive.  An idea was hatched to have A.J. lock Skye in the room and then have her call Jax for help.  Skye felt that since Jax and Sonny were at odds, Jax would easily believe that the mobster had locked her up.  A.J. and Skye lost their membership in the conniver’s club when it came to covering their tracks.  Jax came to Skye’s “rescue,” only to find one of A.J.’s cufflinks on the scene.  Jax let Skye know that he saw right through her scheme!

Jax To The Rescue
Not to be deterred, Skye remained secure in her belief that the way to win Jax was to let him play the heroic white knight and protect her from black knight Sonny.  Then came the moment that caught Skye completely off-guard.  She sought a “time out” in the Quartermaine boathouse.  Carly, who grew tired of Skye’s shenanigans, locked her inside, leading Skye to mistakenly think that Sonny’s men had trapped her in there on the mobster’s orders!  Panic set in, causing Skye to take matters into her own hands.  She managed to free herself by loosening some floorboards.  She endured the icy winter waters to make her getaway, only to end up falling unconscious and suffering from hypothermia.  Jax came upon the injured Skye and brought her to the lake house where he warmed her in a bath.  When that failed to do the trick, Jax used his own body temperature to bring warmth to Skye.  They soon made love.

Confession Time
Later, they opened their hearts to one another.  A grateful Skye told Jax that she wanted to make love for quite some time.  He, in turn, admitted that he had feelings of his own for her.  “I just thought you were playing a game,” Skye told Jax.  The handsome tycoon replied, “Because that’s what I thought you wanted.”  Skye apologized for her behavior.  Jax said that he was sorry, too – sorry that they waited this long to make love.  They were not only unclothed under the sheets, but they’d bared their souls to one another, too.
Can this couple make a go of it?  Or will boardroom antics (or the possible return of Brenda) cause the duo to be torn apart?  Fans won’t want to miss a single episode in the lives of this terrific twosome!
