Religion is philosophy and a way of life.
There are about 12 major world religions & many smaller religions.
Each has a well defined belief
in diety, humanity, & the rest of the universe.
The world is big enough to accommodate everyone's beliefs

African Traditional Religions-Belief in a supreme God & reverence for sacred places, persons, and objects.
Agnotism-The belief that neither accepts nor denies the existence of one or more gods.
Amish-The Amish people stress humility, family and community, & separation from the world.
Asatru Folk Assembly-The way by which the Germanic peoples have traditionally related to the Divine & to the world around them.
Assemblies of God-Belief in the God of the Bible & belief He is working in today's world.
Atheism-Accepts or rejects information based on reasonable observation.
Aztec -An ancient as well as currently practiced religion.

B'ahai-Based on the teachings of Baha'u'llah.
Baptist-Authority comes from the Bible.
Buddhism-Meditation in which one learns to be in present rather than past or future.

Celts-People or descendants of the native speakers of the celtic languages.
Christian Science-The belief that sickness and evil are illusions and Bible understood through its teachings.
The Church of England-Church of the country & part of the Anglican community throughout the world.
Confucianism-Founded on the teaching of confucius.

Druidism-Orgainized into tribes spread across several countries.

Eastern Orthodox-Teachings & practices found in Scriptures.
Eckankar-An ancient wisdom which teaches the value of personal experiences as the most natural way.
Episcopalian-A branch of the Anglican Church

Free Methodist - Follow Christ's teachings as explained in the Bible.

Gnostism -A philsophical & religious movement which started in pre-Christian times.

Hinduism -Founded on the existence of a single god manifest in many forms.
Huna-A Hawaiian philosophy.

Islamism-Rose from the teachings of the prophet Muhammed.

Jainism-Originated in India.
Judaism-Beliefs come from the Old Testament and the torah.
Jehovah's Witness-Members are ministers and spread their faith with door to door missionary work.

Krishna-The belief in the Hindu god Krishna as the single god.

Latter Day Saints-Also called Mormonism and calls for a return to the original principles & values of Jesus Christ.
Lutheran Church-Accepts & teaches Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther.

Mennonite-Confessions of faith provide guidelines for interpretation of scriptures.
Muslim-Second largest religion in the world.
Mythology-The study of myths including fairy & legends.

New Age-A free-flowing spiritual movement without text or creed.

Orthodox-Adapts culture & language of country in which it is in.
Occult-Mysterious, spiritual & source of healing power.

Paginism -Characterized by belief in several gods of different characters & human & animal forms.
Pantheism-Reveres and cares for nature, accepts this life as only life.
Parsi-Worship fire as god, pray to natural elements, and call on spirits of deceased ancestors.
Pentecostal-Services feature enthusiastic sermons & hymns.
Peyotism-The largest religion begun, organized, & directed by & for Native Americans.
Presbyterianism-Services are simple with emphasis on the sermon.

Quakerism-Members are active in peace, education and social welfare movements.

Roman Catholicism-The largest Christian religion in the world.
Russian Orthodox Church-The largest ecclesiastically independent Eastern Orthodox church in the world.

Satanism-The worship & imitation of the biblical satan.
Scientology-A religious philosophy that intends to improve life & achieve spiritual freedom for oneself and society.
Shamanism-A magico-religious phenomenon in which the shaman is the great master of ecstasy.
Shintoism-The indigenous system of beliefs and rituals of the Japanese
Sikhism-A religion of India which involves strict adherence to certain principles and practices.
Seventh Day Adventist-Bible is their only creed with emphasis on the second coming of Jesus.

Taoism-The belief in the formless & eternal Tao and recognition of other dieties as mere humans.
Tibetan-Developed from Buddhism and yoga.

Unitarian Universalism-Professes no creed & keeps an open mind to religious questions.
United Church of Christ-Services are simple with emphasis on the sermon.
United Methodist Church -Belief that the Christian faith was revealed in Scripture.
United Pentecostal Church- Services feature enthusiastic sermons & hyms.

Vodun -Sometimes called Voodoo. A mixture of the African "yoruba" religion & Catholicism.

Witchcraft-The practice of natural magic.
Wicca-A celebration of life forces of natures with respect for nature, conservation & ecology.

Xtian-An informal abbreviation of the word christian. The same as Xmas is a shortening of Christmas

Yoruba-Centered around dieties called Orisha".

Z

Zen-A form of Buddhism.
Zoastrianism-A religion that was founded in ancient times.
