Bud Wiser?

Bobby is a teen, who often sits with his dad.
Unaware of a fact that is so very sad.
Delirious with the stench of laughter,
While cliches set the stage for disaster.
Even though they’re funny, his dad is not aware,
I t is also directed at his Bobby over there.
Sooner then he should...Bobby will take his turn.
Encouraging also others, whose parents failed to discern.
Rounds of applause to the lizards and the frogs?

A Small Note On This Poem
I live in a small town in Texas. We have a very prestigous deaf college here. One night a student from there was riding his bike. A 17 year old had been drinking beer and was very drunk. Little did he know that within minutes, he would commit a hit and run crime, leaving pieces of a deaf student's body all over the highway. This poem was written with not only the deaf student in mind but also the careless teenager who killed him. They were both victims. One will have to live with the death of the other until death comes to knock at his door.

Unfortunately, this is not an isolated case. The statistics are horrendous. The beer commercials that we as adults laugh at...are not solely directed at us. We need to discern the real truth and the real consequences. Is there a hidden agenda? If so, should we make light of it in laughter just because it's dipped in humor? Ask the average 10 year old, what his or her favorite commercial is. What is in the mind of a kid as he or she grows up year after year watching beer commercials that mainly get their sales through the use of humor?

Beer commercials ARE very funny on the surface. However, once you seen the hidden agenda it is no longer funny. Every year millions of teens, who have been "conditioned", reach the age of drinking. Quite naturally, the beer companies want their business. The sad thing about this is that many of the 21 year olds who buy beer, often go and group themselves with others who are not of "legal drinking age", and give them so of the "mind altering liquid". What can we do as parents to help prevent a possible tradegy?

I have three children and this is what has work for me...I stopped laughing. Sometimes I wasn't aware that I was laughing at a beer commercial until I saw the beer can, BUT once that commercial was seen, I made sure I remembered it so that I would not laugh at it again. I trained my three children to respond the same way for 14 years. Acquire wisdom and discernment as a way of life and give it as a gift to your children. I know it's not always easy, but you own it to yourself and your children to give them the very best thing in life...God's gift of wisdom.

THE BOOK OF PROVERBS is a very wise start. I highly recommend reading it. In a mystical and powerful way, your way of thinking will began to change for the better because the words you read are actually spirit and life. You will began to see things in a different light than you did before. Simply read and meditate on a few verses each day. Then share your wisdom with your children and continue to give it to them off and on through their lives. It's never too late to try, no matter what their ages are. It must START with YOU though.
