The Smeared Portrait
Smeared by words in the media
Portrayed as thieves and gangstas.
Smeared by the words of a sista
Portrayed as dogs against her.
There are men in every race
Who succumb to muddy disgrace.
But most of that mud is placed,
On the beauty of the black man’s face.
His portrait is smeared because
He is not given a shout.
His portrait is smeared because
They’re not telling what he’s truly about.
America’s stereotyping is at
An all time high.
Sistas it’s time we paint on
This canvas and remove this lie.
A smeared portrait
I hate and detest.
Let us choose colors
Which represent him best.
C’mon sistas, let us repaint
The image of our dear black brother.
If we won’t, who else will?
Is there another?
Let us use shades of red
For the black men who make sure
Their families are fed.
Let us paint shades of brown
For the black men who struggle
For respect and equal ground.
Let us paint shades of blue
For the black men who are not afraid
To work toward the dreams they persue.
Let us paint shades of green
For the black men who help others
In their time of lean.
Let us use shades of purple
For the way he guides the kids
From the path of trouble.
Finally sistas...Let us use shades of yellow
For the times we are in their arms and
The rhythm is mellow.
What we have painted is not
A smeared portrait but
A strong fortress
A great and mighty prince
In which nothing
Can prevail against.
He is not a rarity
He just needs clarity
We must make it clear, who he is
And how he feels.
For the love of God, let us not betray
The beautiful colors, which black men portray.
Sistas, gird up your mind and make it set
To help our men destroy
The smeared portrait!
