		Joining a sorority as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or transfer student, is a great way for you to quickly meet new people, get involved with the University, be part of the community, and most importantly have fun! MORE REASONS TO JOIN A SISTERHOOD SCHOLARSHIP Sorority women at Maryland have a higher average GPA than non-Greek women.  Not only that, but Alpha Chi's have been able to stay above the average sorority women as well!  Last Spring's new member class received the highest sorority GPA this past fall at dedication. CAMPUS INVOLVEMENT Sorority women engage in many Non-Greek activitites.  Being in a sorority can open you to many new niches in the Maryland community.  The Sisters of Alpha Chi Omega are involved in many activities, such as: Order of Omega, Maryland Dance Team, Maryland's Club Field Hockey Team, the Diamondback, Panhellenic Association, College Park Scholars, Gemstone, and Honors Programs. DIVERSITY Sorority members have many different backgrounds, races, religions, values, and beliefs, as well as unique talents, interests, and academic majors.  Part of the value of the sorority membership is interacting with a wide variety of people, preparing members for the reality of life after college. SERVICE All sororities have a philanthropy for which they raise money in order to help those in need. Alpha Chi's philanthropy is Domestic Violence where we spend our time helping those affected by domestic violence in our nearby communities. Every spring A Chi O organizes  a "Frisbee Fling" on the row where participating houses put together co-ed teams and had a round robin competition. It was such a success that we are doing it again this year! However at Alpha Chi Omega we go beyond just our philanthropy in order to help our community among the places we were able to help at were soup kitchen's, food pantries, environmental clean up's and many other small service projects throughout the year. SOCIAL Sororities provide their members with a broad range of social events to participate in. Some Alpha Chi activities include formals, dated parties, grab-a-dates, alumnae activities, parents weekends, sisterhood activities as well as intramural sorority sports like volleyball and soccer! LEADERSHIP All Greek organizations at Maryland are self-governed and require strong leadership skills.  There are many leadership positions with in Alpha Chi Omega ranging from Executive Board positions to heading Committees or Events.  No matter how much time you have to give you can find a position that's right for you. SISTERHOOD Most importantly sororities offer life-long friendships. Whether you need someone to laugh or cry with, you can count on a sister to be there for you.  Alpha Chi's also maintain great alumni status and visit years after graduation.  We welcome you to come see the oppourtunities at Alpha Chi Omega!
