FIVE ELEMENTS

The chinese divided the world into five elements and everything on the earth was considered to belong by its nature to one of these five catagories traditional chinese medicine is based on universalistic chinese philosophy of Yin and Yang form the interaction of these two polarities,it was belived that the five arose all the laws applicable to the universe are applicable to the humanbeing. The human is also divided into five elements. These five elements are WOOD,FIRE,EARTH,METAL AND WATER.Each elements represent two organs there are five elements and twelve organs (Fire represent four organs i.e heart, small intestine, pericardium and triple warmer.) Heart and small intestine can be called fire prince and pericardium and triple warmer called fire minister.

WOOD represents

Liver and Gallbladder.

FIRE Prince represents

Heart,Small Intestine.

FIRE Minister represents

Pericardium,Triple Warmer.

EARTH represents

Spleen,Stomach.

METAL represents

Lungs,Large intestine.

WATER represents

Kidney,Urinary Bladder.

This suggests that in fire element one is superior to the other, one is related to the organ and the other is related to the function.

  • Fire Prince - Heart and Small Intestine are fire organs.
  • Fire Minister - Pericardium and Triple Warmer are fire functions.

The five elements are not independent entities they are in intimate relationship with each other. Each elements governs and is governed.Nothing in the world belongs wholly to one element each has all five, but one so predominates that it gives one elements characteristic and is named accordingly. All organs have traces of other four elements and through these traces that one organ is linked with the organs of different elements.Relationship of the five elements to each otheris essentially a conceptual relationship. On each of the twelve organs there is a special point which links a meridian's associated organ with one other organ. Each special point is named after the organ to which it is connected. e.g acupunture point on the heart meridian(Five organs) which links it with the spleen(earth organ) is called the earth point of the heart meridian (spleen belongs to earth element).
