Adam's Place was recently recognized as one of the top three projects in the Mississippi Community Leadership Association's Projects of Excellence Award. Five of our team members attended a luncheon at the Isle of Capri Conference Center in Biloxi where we were treated to a "light lunch" and were recognized as a 2003 Project of Excellence. Over 40 projects were submitted statewide and 10 projects were selected as finalists. After the luncheon, project team member Jay Estes stated that, "We are extremely honored to be recognized with this award. However, our true reward has been in providing this facility for the children of the Pine Belt Region."
What is Adam's Place?
Adam's Place is a unique playground that meets the needs of all Pine Belt Area children, especially those with a disabilitiy.
Where is Adam's Place located?
Adam's Place is located at Kamper Park and Zoo in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Kamper Park is one of Mississippi's most visited attractions. The park's central location is convenient to all Gulf South residents and visitors. Adam's Place is adjacent to the existing playground and will enhance the overall experience for children of all ages.
Who is Adam?
Inspired by Adam McPhail's relentless effort to deal with the obstacles of everyday life despite his condition (Osteogenesis Imperfecta), the McPhail family, with the help of the ADP's Leaders for a New Century Class of 2001, Forrest County, The City of Hattiesburg, and countless private individuals, initiated an effort to construct a playground accessible to all children including those with physical challenges.
Why Hattiesburg?
Hattiesburg is centrally located in South Mississippi. This means that Adam's Place is available to the maximum number of children. Hattiesburg and the Pine Belt Area consistently take the lead in providing a high quality of life for all of its citizens.
