My
MOBLEY
Ancestors

Dedicated to the memory of Agnes Jamison Mobley Spires

My Mobley ancestors can be traced back to John Mobberly (1687-1752) of Maryland whose father emigrated from England to the American colonies about the time his son John was born. John Mobberly's son, Mordecai Mobley, moved from Maryland into North Carolina. Mordecai Mobley's son, Jesse Mobley, spent his life in Wake County, North Carolina. It was there that his son, Caswell Mobley, was born. As a young man, Caswell Mobley moved to Lancaster County, South Carolina. My Mobley ancestors then remained in Lancaster County for a couple of generations until my grandmother, Dot Estell Blanton Mobley, a young widow, married a widower from Bamberg County, whom she likely met while visiting her sister, Frances "Fannie" E. Blanton Bessinger. My parents married a few years before the Great Depression. During those meager years, my father moved the family around South Carolina to wherever there was work to be found.

This page is designed primarily to share information about my Mobley ancestors who made their home in South Carolina. One of the major sources I used in obtaining biographical data on my Mobley ancestors is Mobley's in America, a massive and comprehensive work originally compiled by Milton Mobley and now maintained by Carl Mobley. This work can be viewed in its entirety at Mobley Home Page provided you subscribe to the Mobley Family Group and share your own Mobley data. I am in the process of attempting to document my Mobley ancestors through censuses, birth records, death and burial records, marriage records, deeds, wills, and so on.

Although every attempt is made to provide accurate information, it is possible that there may be inadvertent errors. If, while viewing this information, you read anything that seems to be in error, I hope you will let me know. I also hope that if you can share anything to make this family record more complete you will contact me.
