State signs to honor Sioux
4:08:28 PM
Associated Press

(Pierre-AP) -- The full Senate will consider legislation to erect
signs along South Dakota's borders that recognize the state as
the home of the great Sioux nations.

The bill's sponsor, state Senator Keith Paisley of Sioux Falls,
told the Senate Commerce Committee today the signs would be
one way to remind people that South Dakotans are proud of the
American Indian legacy.

He says he's been told there are 58 potential places for such
signs -- and that the total cost for signs and installation would be
about $20,000.

The measure was sent to the Senate floor on a six-to-one vote.
