Civil rights report delayed
A report on the treatment of American Indians in South
Dakota is reportedly held up because of lost paperwork.
U.S. Civil Rights chairwoman Mary Frances Berry says
the problem is with federal law enforcement officers.
The commission held hearings in Rapid City last month
on allegations of racial injustice. Berry says she's
asked attorney general Janet Reno to remind federal
agents to release information to the commission. But
Berry says the people involved claimed they lost the
request. Berry says after Reno talked to them, the
agents found the paperwork. A report on the commission's
findings is due in March.
