Dear Sisters & Brothers, I wrote this poem for our brother Leonard Peltier a
few months ago and wanted to share it with you.

        Peace and Struggle

                COLONIAL ICE

            The jaw of Leonard Peltier
                is frozen open at 13 millimeters,

wire is used to divide the earth,
    to disect the people,
create false borders,
    silence the song of our brother
        Leonard Peltier,
it cuts the skin,
    slices thru dreams,
        splits the heart
            and binds our wings,
this government has wired Leonard,
    masked his continued torture
        in the transparent face of medical care,
they follow false imprisonment
    with untruthful surgery,
moving from Wounded Knee to assassinated jaw,
    as malnutrition followa malfeasance,
lack of food will not disappear his spirit,
    a frozen jaw will not silence his voice,
the hands of ancestors hold him gently,
    the offer rescue from his metal coffin,
the prison system refuses clemency
    and the hands of northern healers,
the will not accept Peltier's survival
    or his voice that they fear,
our brother dances within his metal circle,
    pain is his journey,
        filled with visions of his tormentors,
their ugly faces
    are exposed to the people's eyes,
angry spirit voices confront them,
    set their wires to tremble,
we join our relations in one song,
    heal our brother Leonard,
        pray wire into feather,
lift him to sky,
    where he is singer,
        where he is dancer,
            where he is eagle.
