ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- The Bill and Melinda Gates
Foundation has created a new program to provide Internet
access to American Indian tribes in the Southwest. The money
from the billionaire Microsoft chairman and his wife will
help fund the Native American Access to Technology Program,
which will provide grants for equipment and educational
assistance needed to help tribes bridge the digital divide.

The program plans to provide aid to tribes in New Mexico,
Arizona, Colorado and Utah.

The Gates Foundation, with an endowment of about $21.8
billion, is the world's richest. The foundation focuses its
giving on health and education.
