More aboriginals complain about Saskatoon police
CBC WebPosted Thu Feb 24 02:21:28 2000

SASKATOON - The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations says about 100
people have complained about police harrassment in the last week. The
complaints started rolling in after allegations were made public that some
Saskatoon police may have been driving natives to the edge of the city and
dropping them off in the freezing cold.

The federation has now set up a hotline to gather complaints of police
harassment.

Meanwhile, the RCMP task force investigating the allegations say they won't
look into a decade-old case just now.

The body of 17-year-old Neil Stonechild was found on the outskirts of
Saskatoon in 1990.

According to the last person to see him alive, Stonechild was taken away by
city police after a night of drinking.

Meanwhile, Sgt. Rick Wychreschuk says another death of an aboriginal man
will be investigated. He says an autopsy began Wednesday on 33-year-old
Darcy Ironchild.

Ironchild's body was found on the weekend, four hours after he had been
released from police custody.
