Here in Evernight, burials are in above ground vaults; most were constructed in the 18th and 19th centuries. The above-ground tombs, required here because the ground water levels make burial impractical. Imagine the horror, when they actually attempted below ground burial in the early days of Evernight, only to experience a flood and have the bodies of their loved ones floating down the streets. These rather large cities of the dead are one block beyond the inland border of the French Quarter and some border the portion of the city known as Storyville. The cemeteries are favored lurking grounds for vampires, thieves, and murderers, as it is far too easy to be hidden within the shadows among the volumes of tall tombs. Due to crime risks, it is inadvisable for individual tourists to visit the cemetery on their own, but it can be safely visited with daylight guided tours. These pictures are just to give a visual idea of what the several cemeteries of Evernight look like. Click any of the thumbnails to see the full sized images.
