Character Bios

Romeo
     A young man who is always falling in love.  His love interests were never returned untill he met Juliet.  Romeo is a hopeless romantic and someone who always seems to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time.  His passion for Juliet is eternal, and it even trancends death.

Juliet
     Fourteen years old and the only daughter of a rich noble, Juliet is bred to be one of the finest ladies in the land.  She is being courted by the County Paris when she first lays eyes on Romeo.  She falls in love immediately with his good looks and abundant charm.  Paris is forgotten until the day she is forced to marry him.  To avoid her betrothal, she plots with Friar Lawrence to devise a way to fool everyone into thinking that she is dead.  Only then can she be with Romeo.

County Paris
     An older man, the County is infatuated with Juliet.  He loves her with all his heart but the love is not returned.  Juliet only has eyes for Romeo. 

Friar Lawrence
     The holy man Friar Lawrence is not a strict follower of the Word.  Instead, he only does what he thinks is right.  He will do anything to save lives and is Juliet's coconspirator in the plot to fake her death.

Lord Capulet
     Juliet's father, he cares for her like any father would.  He loves her dearly but just can't seem to be able to rightly show it.  In fact, it is his abundant love that is the source of Juliet's untimely demise.

Lady Capulet
     Juliet's mother, she married at the age of fourteen and expects Juliet to do the same.  She also loves her daughter very much, but doesn't seem to be in touch with what Juliet is really feeling.

Nurse
     Nurse has her roots on the streets and in the slums.  As Juliet's personal aide, however; she attempts to be extremely lady-like and very proper.  He rambling throughout the play shows that she is a very social person.  Nurse treasures Juliet like a daughter, and indeed sees he to be a replacement for the daughter that she lost.

Benvolio
     Benvolio is Romeo's cousin and good friend.  He tries to convince Romeo to live his life to the fullest and not be hindered by love.

Mercutio
     Another one of Romeo's good friends, Mercutio is the kin of the Prince.  He finds pleasure in the taunting of others and does so on a regular basis.  He has a very high self image and will never back down from a fight.

Tybalt
     Tybalt is the firey cousin of Juliet.  He doesn't wait for fights to come to him, he instead goes out and finds them.  Tybalt also has a very high self image of himself and is easily offended by even the smallest things.

The Prince
     The Prince is the ruler of Verona.  He is the judge, mayor, and royalty of the town and is not afraid to exercise his rights.  Prince does not choose to favor either the Montagues or the Capulets, but instead promotes peace between them.  He knows that peace between the houses would bring peace to Verona, which is where his real interests lie.

Lord Montague
     Lord Montague is the father of Romeo.  He is not mentioned much in the story but seems to be a pretty easygoing kind of guy.

Lady Montague
     Romeo's mother, also not mentioned much in the story.

Rosaline
    Rosaline is Romeo's love at the beginning of the story.  She cannot return his love, however; because she is to be sworn into chastity and become a nun.  Romeo is obsessed with Rosaline, untill he meets Juliet that is.

Peter
   Peter is Nurse's aide, and not a very intelligent guy.

Balthasar
     Romeo's personal servant, Balthasar does Romeo's bidding.

Apothecary
    Poor herbalist of Mantua.  The Apothecary is forced into selling Romeo a draught of poison by the lure of a couple gold coins.
