As I said, this is a reworking of a timeline I worked out for the writing of ‘The Secret Life of a Girl’. Most of the credit goes to the Escaflowne Compendium. Without that resource, I never would have been able to do this. That being said, I do disagree with some of the information they have, with all my quibbles being when characters were born. For the sake of this timeline, I assumed (yes, I know the saying about the dangers of assuming -_- ) all official ages given for characters were the age they were when they first appeared. This affects the years they were born in as the series takes place during the summer (according to the page Amano sends Hitomi). For example, Hitomi and Millerna are listed as the same age and as having the same birth year according in the Compendium, but Millerna has an April (Green) birthday and Hitomi’s birthday is in December. That means Millerna just turned fifteen whereas Hitomi will be turning sixteen at the end of the year the events of the series took place. They weren’t born in the same year using this logic. It’s nit-picky, I know, but I don’t deny that I’m a bit anal retentive about this stuff. There are some other problems I have, but I’ll deal with them when I get to them. For the sake of making things easy for me to count, I called Allen’s birth year Year 0. All Gaean color names for months have been translated into Mystic Moon month names. Birthdays for all the major characters are given as a reference point but only events relevant to Allen are listed. |

Some black text will have asterisks beside it A single asterisk (*) means I’m questioning the Compendium birth year as explained in the introduction. A double asterisk (**) signifies another problem I’ll go into detail about. |
YEAR -48 |
+ Unspecified date -- Balgus Genesha born |
UNSPECIFIED YEAR BEFORE 0 |
+ February 17th -- Folken Lacour de Fanel born |
YEAR -2 |
+ Unspecified date -- Marlene Erisha Aston born The general consensus among fic writers is that Marlene was two or three years older than Allen. Unfortunately, while the creators saw fit to give ages to such throwaway characters as the Fanelian Samurai who have all of one minute screen time combined before getting skewered by the Dragonslayers, they never gave a birthday to poor Marlene. |
YEAR 0 |
+ Unspecified date -- Gaddes born |
+ November 3rd -- Allen Crusade Schezar VIII born + Unspecified date -- Eries Aria Aston born |
+ May 25th -- Dryden Fassa born * |
+ No major dates (Unless you consider Allen hitting the terrible twos major. I’m sure he was the perfect, adorable toddler. Then again, Encia doesn’t seem like the stern disciplinarian type and who knows what Leon was up to.) |
+ Unspecified date -- Naria and Eriya born |
+ No major dates |
+ Unspecified date, Susumo Amano cloned (Yep, Amano is actually his last name for the hyper technical) |
+ August 8th -- Celena Schezar born * + December 9th -- Hitomi Kanzaki born * + December 12th -- Van Slanzar de Fanel born */** ** Van’s birthday is listed as White, 12th moon and is translated as April 12th in the Compendium. This doesn’t jibe with Millerna’s birthday, which is also in Green, but is translated as April. The month of White is apparently the month of December if you go by the dates in Leon’s journal. He meets Isaac on Blue 16th which we know is November because it’s Allen’s birth month. He then writes that he loses track of Isaac on White 3rd. It doesn’t make sense that the two of them spent more than a couple of weeks wondering around together. |
+ April 24th -- Millerna Sara Aston born |
+ No major dates |
+ June 30th, Merle born |
+ No major dates |
+ No major dates |
+ Unspecified date and year -- Allen encounters Balgus and challenges him. His butt is kicked quickly and soundly for his efforts. Balgus takes him on as an apprentice. + Unspecified dates and years -- Allen trains under Balgus’ watchful eye. |
+ April 12th -- Allen is named to the Knights Caeli + April through August -- Allen is posted to the palace guard; Allen meets Marlene and becomes involved in an affair with her + August 3rd -- Marlene is engaged to Mahad dal Freid + August -- Chid is conceived, Marlene leaves for Freid I’ve omitted one of the dates from Marlene’s diary because it didn’t make much sense. The diary gives Yellow 34th moon as the date when Marlene first sees Allen at the tournament. But Yellow is Dryden’s birth month and that gets translated as May in the Compendium. If she saw Allen in May, that means almost an entire year passed between that tournament and his appointment to the Caeli. It also means that the older Marlene would have been getting worked up over a fourteen year old Allen. My thinking is that Yellow might really be March, not May. It would make sense that Allen would get the post shortly after winning a tournament that was big enough to have royalty in the audience. This isn’t as concrete as the White/December thing in Leon’s journal though, so Yellow being May stands and the journal entry was discarded. |
+ May -- Chid zar Freid born |
+ May -- Hitomi arrives on Gaea; Balgus dies; Allen finds Hitomi while on patrol + June 1st -- After escaping from prison , Allen makes his way towards Freid + Summer -- The Gaean War, Celena returns |

+ Unspecified date and year -- Allen is transferred to the Castelo; Acquires Natal + Unspecified date, Year 19 -- Marlene dies |
YEAR 13 |
+ April 12th -- Leon takes off on his quest for Atlantis. Allen is pissed. + Very late in year -- Celena disappears. Allen is bummed. |
+ Early in year -- Leon is killed by Zaibach soldiers. Allen is oblivious. (Until years later when he gets to relive the experience with Leon’s ghost. What a great way for a father and son to bond.) + Early in year -- Encia dies. Allen is clinically depressed. + Early in year -- Allen runs away from his family’s estate and takes up the life of a bandit. I place all of these events early in the year based on Leon’s journal. Everything keeps coming back to the White/December 3rd date. Leon just gets separated from Dornkirk then. He still needs to find Atlantis, spend enough time there to learn its secret and acquire the all important pendant and then come back to Gaea for Dornkirk and his cronies to hunt him down. It probably took at least a month for all that to happen. Encia clearly died after Leon did or else she wouldn’t have been in his study to pick up his journal. Thing is, Encia looks pretty healthy in this scene. Allen said his mother got sick and died not all that long after Celena disappeared. The Compendium says she disappeared in Year 12. That’s still workable if Celena was abducted very, very late in the year as I noted above. I have Allen running off not that much later than Encia’s death, because really, why would he hang around? Bleh, I think too much about this crap. |
