Harry has cash but Kelly has cup berth

She wears the green and gold, developed her game at the NSW Academy at Parklea, plays for an overseas club and has a left foot that makes her fellow players drool with envy.

But what Harry Kewell will make in a week with Liverpool, Kelly Golebiowski would be lucky to make in three years with her American side, Washington Freedom. But the Matildas striker does have one advantage over her Socceroo peer - she's going to the World Cup.

National coach Adrian Santrac will announce his 20-member squad for the 2003 women's World Cup in the USA today (Sydney time) and, while some choices have been difficult, Golebiowski is not among them.

The 21-year-old forward came of age during the Australia Cup tournament this year, finally adding goal-scoring to her repertoire. She has scored 13 goals in her past 15 internationals.

And despite her new role as "super sub" in the world's strongest league, Golebiowski has scored five times in 11 games for Washington this season. Lack of game time - she is often restricted to less than half an hour off the bench - does not unduly concern Santrac with the World Cup around the corner.

"Like any national coach, you'd rather your players were playing regularly, but in Kelly's case the experience of playing in the WUSA is still benefiting her enormously," he said.

"She's training and playing alongside the world's greatest player [US forward Mia Hamm] every week, and that's a fantastic opportunity in itself. Generally speaking, the standard and the intensity of the WUSA is very high and I've got no worries that she'll come back to us underdone."

The Matildas will finetune their World Cup preparations with a short tour to Japan at the end of this month, where they play the host nation and South Korea. The World Cup kicks off in the USA in late September.
