Most of Afghanistan's holidays are events on the Islamic calendar. The main holidays of the year the ten days of mourning which is called Muharram. Another big holiday is Mohammed's birthday, and one last large holiday is the Feast of the Sacrifice or Eid Al Adha. |

The main Islamic holiday is Ramadan. Ramadan is the ninth month, it is a time for fasting and a lot of praying. Everyone exept for small childeren and the very weak dont eat or drink at all the entire day. |

Eid Al Fitr |

Eid Al Fitr is in the tenth month of the Islamic calendar. Eid Al Fitr is one of the most happy holidays on the Islamic calendar, friends and family members exchange gifts and there is a huge feast. The feast comes right at the end of the Ramadan fast so the people finnaly can eat again. It is a three day holiday. |

Independence |

Afghanistan's most important national holiday is it's Independence Day. Afghanistan's Independence Day is on August 19. Businesses all over are closed for three days. People celebrate by wearing colorful clothes, they have parades and set off fireworks much like our 4th of July. |
