A Chicago Daydream
Fact or Fiction?

"Are we lost?"  Amber exited the car and walked to the back where Violet had a map of the city spread out across the trunk.

"No, we're not lost because we know that our hotel is on this street.  What I can't figure out is how to get from here to Franklin Street."   Violet was intensely reading the map trying desperately to find the connecting streets that would take them to downtown Chicago.

"Do you want to take the car back to the hotel and catch a taxi?   It might be our best bet and it doesn't look as though it's very hard to flag one down."   Amber suggested as she watched a man stop a taxi at the corner and get in.

"Give me just a few more minutes.   I know that we passed this road before but I don't remember which direction we were traveling."   Violet continued to study the map and answered without looking up.  City maps were so frustrating.  The roads just never seemed to connect!!

The two women had traveled from different states to attend a play that featured their favorite actor.  After months of anticipation and planning, they were finally in Chicago.  Finding the Theatre had been a breeze and in a few  hours, they would be sitting front row center watching HIM perform his magic on the audience.  Until then, sightseeing was the number one priority but finding the way around town was a major problem.

Amber leaned against the car and waited patiently as Violet concentrated on the map.   She glanced across the street to the theatre and noticed the large picture window on the second floor.  Her mind drifted and for a moment she could almost see him standing there, watching as the people in the neighborhood went about their daily routine.   "What a cool daydream"  Amber thought.  "If only he were there."

"I FOUND IT!"   The sound of Violet's excited voice snapped Amber back to reality and she joined her friend at the car to discuss the route that they would be taking.   Now that they knew where they were going, things didn't seem so bad.  They quickly packed their cameras before getting back into the car.   Amber opened the passenger side door and hesitated a moment to take one more look at the theatre.

"OH....MY....GOODNESS!!"   Amber's eyes grew wide with excitement as she saw the man who was standing at the second floor window.   "Could it be him??   Curly brown hair....rather tall...I wish I could see his face better."   She raised her hand and gave a small wave and to her surprise, the man smiled and waved back.

Amber was afraid to move her eyes away from the window for fear that he would disappear.
Violet was still loading her things into the car and hadn't noticed her friend's excitement.

"Violet?"

"What"

"Come over here for a minute."

"Why?"

"Just come over here...please."

Violet couldn't quite read the look that was on Amber's face but she joined her on the sidewalk.

"Now what?"

"Look over at the theatre"

"Ok, now what?'

"Violet, look up and wave."

Violet gave a wave and then recognized the man who was returning her greeting.    Amber stood back and smiled when she saw the expression on Violet's face.  What a priceless surprise!

"No.....that's not who I think it is.....is it?"
