Lt Colonel Mick Dove
Lt Colonel Mick Dove was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, where he attended Lynn View High School. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of Tennessee. In 1974 he earned a Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering and a Lieutenant's commission through Air Force ROTC. While waiting for a pilot training slot he got married and worked in several jobs that he would not want to do for a living.

After finally completing pilot training at Reese AFB, Texas, he was assigned to RAF Bentwaters, United Kingdom as an F-4 Phantom pilot.Midway through his 3-year tour there, he cross-trained into the A-10 Thunderbolt (Warthog). Returning to the UNited States in 1981, he was stationed at England AFB, Louisiana for two years, as an Instructor Pilot and Standardization/Evaluation Officer. He was later offered the unique opportunity for an assignment as an Exchange Pilot with the British Royal Air FOrce flying the AV-8 Harrier. As part of that training, he was also able to fly the Jet Provost, the Hawk, and Gazelle helicopter. The last two years of the Exchange assignment were served at RAF Gutersloh, West Germany.

Returning to the US to "pay his dues", he served as an Instructor and Assistant Operations Officer at Patrick AFB, Florida, flying the OV-10 Bronco. While stationed at Patrick, he was able to earn a Master of Science Degree in Space Sciences at the Florida Institute of Technology. The personnel system finally caught up to him with the 'dreaded' non-flying tour. He attended the 10-month long US Marine Corps Command and Staff College at Quantico, Virginia. One each beautiful daughter arrived during this assignment. Returning to the cockpit, he was rewarded with an assignment to Myrtle Beach AFB, South Carolina, once again flying the Warthog. Two weeks after arriving, he was informed that the base would be close in two short years. While at Myrtle Beach, he served as the Wing Flying Safety Officer.

The long 'career-broadening, non-flying' stretch then began, with a 3-year assignment to NATO Headquarters in Naples, Italy. After many long hours as the Cell Chief in the Command Center for Bosnia Operations, he escaped for his final tour in the Air Force to Hurlburt Field, Florida. Assigned to the Air/Ground Operations School, he was Chief of the Weapons and Operations Branches, but he did get to drive a Hummer on the weekends.

During his 22 years as a fighter pilot, his travels in the United States allowed him to visit 25 states, and in Europe he was able to visit 19 countries

Lt Colonel Dove is quoted saying "I chose the most beautiful location I could find for my post-retirement job as a JROTC Instructor her ein the North Carolina mountains! I miss flying upside-down, low-level mountain flying, and pulling 5 G's, but otherwise I'm very happy with the way things have turned out. Come Visit".
