All-Australian - Team selected at the end of each season, made up of the 18 best players for the year, 4 interchange players and the best Coach of the year. Unlike the Bronlow, players that have been reported and found guilty are still eligible to be included in the team.. Ansett Rising Star award - see "Rising Star award". Banana kick - For a rightfooted player, a banana kick is one that is kicked on the right hand side of the right foot and curves to the right. Behind - One point (see "Beginners Guide section" for more information). Bronlow Medal - Awarded each season to the "Best and Fairest" player in the AFL. It is considered the highest individual honour in the game. Votes towards the medal are awarded by the umpires each week. Players who have been suspended are ineligible to win the award. Coleman Medal - Awarded to the player who kicks the most goals in a season. 'Crumber' - Player whose job is to get into the middle of the pack and force the ball out. Disposal - Any legal method of getting rid of the ball (eg. kicking or handballing the ball). Drop Punt - The most used kick, achieved by holding the ball up and down. Fifty, the - The 50 metre line out from the goals at each end of the ground. 'Locking it up' - Stopping the ball from advancing into the opponents goal area. Margarey Medal - Awarded to the "Best and Fairest" player in the SANFL each season. Mark - To 'catch' the ball after it has been kicked. To qualify as a mark, the player must be in control of the ball and it cannot have been touched by any other player or bounced before reching him. Norm Smith Medal - The Norm Smith Medal is awarded to the player voted "Best on Ground" during that season's Grand Final. On the Ball - This player is not in a specific position, but is allowed to follow the ball and the play around the oval. On the mark - A player stands on the spot where the mark was taken to try and put the kicker off. Rising Star Award - The Rising Star Award is given to the best rookie during the past season. Aplyer is selected each round and these are then voted on at the end of the season. Sandover Medal - Awarded to the "Best and Fairest" player in the WESTAR league each seaon. SANFL - South Australian National Football League. The state league for South Australia. Screamer - A high-flying mark. Smother - To jump in front of the the player with the ball just before (or as) it is kicked to stop the ball advancing. Speccie - 'Spectacular' mark. Teal Cup - A football carnival held each year with a representative team from each state selected from teenage footballers in the local leagues. It is a showcase of the young talent available, and is often used a scouting ground by AFL recruiting staff. Term - A quarter. Torpedo or Torp - Ball is held horizontally and kicked across the instep sending it in a torpedo motion. This type of kick makes the ball travel a lot further than a drop punt.
