Cataract Falls

Do you think there is nothing to do in Indiana? If you like the outdoors and waterfalls, then this site will help you to prove otherwise. Up until recently I didn't know there were waterfalls in Indiana. There Are! Waterfalls can be found primarily throughout the southern half of the state. Hopefully, this site gives you a little taste of what's out there.

Above is an image of Cataract Falls, located just southwest of Indianapolis off of SR 231 inbetween SR46 and I-70.

Cataract Falls was the first waterfall I visited in Indiana. It happened by fluke. My friend and I had taken an all night road trip in May of 2000 to Brown County State Park to photograph what turned out to be a disappointing sunrise. I had recently seen a picture of Cataract Falls In Country magazine, so as to not make the whole trip a dismal failure, we stopped at Cataract Falls on the way home, and thus my Indiana waterfall adventure began!

I revisited Cataract falls in June of 2001. It had rained a good deal in the weeks prior, so the falls were in full flow. Like the first trip to Cataract a year prior, this again was a spur of the moment idea. However, I learned from the previous year and so did not leave in the middle of the night, as the best time to photograph the falls is in the late afternoon, when the sun is at a low angle in the sky shining down upon the falls.

Thus far I have included 7 waterfalls on my site. The information on this topic is limited, hence the reason for my making this web site. If you do have any clues as to the whereabouts of falls within Indiana, drop me a line via e-mail.

The names of the waterfalls below will link you to more information and images.
